Irony of Toronto Parking - CBR 125 vs Burgman 650

Just the other day, I saw a huge 650 Burgman parked on the sidewalk.. right next to it on the street is a CBR 125. The CBR is like a tiny little dwarf bike right next to the Burgman.

I thought the reason why scooters are allowed to park on sidewalk is because of its smaller size.

Motorized vehicles aren't supposed to be parked on the sidewalk at all >.>

Edit: I stand corrected to the above statement.

Except for e-bikes of course

Well most scooters are smaller than the average motorcycle. Maxi scooters are not common. Burgman should be parked on the street.

Not the first time I saw a Burgman on the sidewalk, coincidentally, a CBR125 was right next to it.. which show its massive size.

Regarding the laws on motorized vehicle. Are you sure about that? I am just looking at the window right outside here in downtown, I can see at least half a dozen of scooters (not electric) parked on the sidewalk. Though they are those 50cc I think, There's a Ruckus right in front of our building for the longest time.

In TO, scooters are allowed to park on the side walk providing they are not an obstruction to pedestrian traffic. Size of the scooter doesn't matter. BUT if enough of them start to take up space, the city would probably change it.

I thought scooters under 50cc they can park on the sidewalk but that the parking enforcement just turns a blind eye to all other vespa-type scooters on sidewalks. Parking enforcement also turns a blind eye to bikes parked more than 3 hrs in the core too.

vkhamphi is right...under 50cc's ARE allowed to park on sidewalks.

Theres a giant 500cc scooter that parks on Temperance St all the time, sidewalk + no ticket. And this is a heavily ticketed area!

Seems to be a weird arbitrary rule. But maybe we're better off not complaining, incase bikes suddenly stop being free to park at all!

I spoke with an officer on Front Street one day and he was quite candid about it. I told him what I thought the law was (under 50cc allowed), and he confirmed that. What he explained though, was that since scooters with bigger displacement are often not much bigger, they generally overlooked the 125 and 150 scooters they saw. Bigger than that, he said, they're "likely" to get a ticket.

So just add two stickers and call it cb-scooteR.
Problem solved.

I have seen it a few times last year in downtown where a trailer was hauling at least half a dozen bikes or more in a batch by a tow truck.

I am not sure if those are illegally parked or whether they randowly enfore the 3 hours rule or perhaps it past the time limit and hitting rush hour.

I remember seeing some scooters in them too.

im confused in the use of "bike" in this thread. i just got a cbr125. so i have to park it on the street, okay. but do i have to pay for parking on the street? im hoping no...

I was referring to motorcycles being towed...

street meter parking - motorcycles don't have to pay. But technically, have to move it every 3 hours on street meter parking but some say the ticket enforcement don't really care. But certain streets need to be cleard between 4 to 6pm, I am suspecting the motorcycles that were being towed are because of that... it would be a shXty if it was because of the 3 hours limit.

As long as it's green P street parking, it is free (with a 3 hr limit that is commonly ignored by parking enforcement). Careful of the No parking times though.

Just getting the Burger up on the sidewalk must have been a trick...not the most nimble creature at 625 lb.
In Aus they have bike only slots in all the parking areas and it's free - each one takes about 4 bikes for each car space.
There are lots of nooks and crannies that could work in Toronto with decent parking management and rules.

oh thats awesome. ive had to use parkingticketguys more than id like. parking enforcement are like ninjas hiding in trees with stopwatches at certain places

Remember what time of the month it was? One TO meter maid was caught pushing bikes out of metered parking then citing a trailerload before he got his kickback from the towing company. Quick way to fill a quota.

It was mid season (July/Aug) for at least two incidents. One, I was near the intersection on Bay and Front and the trailer was heading west on Front st. The other time, around the same area and saw the trailer going south on Bay.

A more recent incident was later on the season in Oct of last year along Dundas and Bay... wasn't as many bikes, maybe 3 or 4 during that time.

meh... it would be cool if bikes could park on sidewalks but I ain't gonna complain that we can't. We get perks as it is. So what if scooters get some perks of their own? Keeps them out of our free parking spots. Besides, we can often still park on sidewalks at malls, shopping plazas, etc.
