Insuring a second bike

Im trying to insure a second bike that has a higher cc, but problem is i only ride the bike during weekend and non-rainy weather. I have my primary bike for commuting. Does insurance here able to customize policy? I heard some companies can make exception for u since they know you have the primary bike. I dont want to pay $3000 per year to ride just the weekends..

i know for cars like really expensive ones, sometimes they will only insure it in good weather condition and only the named drivers can drive it(ie. cant borrow to a friend)

Good luck! Start calling around. Prepare for disappointment.

Good luck, it's worth checking but I haven't heard of others finding what you are looking for. Too many people insure vehicles for friends (or would say they commuted on a 125 and only rode the 1000 on weekends to minimize their payments). Most people have found that insuring two bikes costs roughly double the insurance of 1 bike (assuming both are similar classes).

As for the only listed drivers, that doesn't exist (for most people) in Ontario. You can exclude specific drivers, but you can't get a policy for you only. Maybe you are right and for ultra-expensive cars they create policies outside of the conventional framework, but for normal vehiclesm it's not possible.

I called. Stupid insurance...I have to pay double the rate to insure two bikes, no thanks. It should be more like 10-20% extra, thats how it works for car insurance

At 3500/year, bike not disclosed here, I rather ride without it, when cops come I just gun it. BYE

Good luck when you wreck it and can't gun it.

I know of someone who did this. Cop radioed in and he was lucky he wasnt in the highway. But he soon ended up in a jam and was later caught.

LMAO. Okay, vote for Bibo #2 right here.

Good luck with that.

Why not then have a track bike?

If you're only gonna use it for weekends and nice days, and don't want to pay insurance, just take it to the track.

Otherwise, pay to play.

Im curious of how this type of situation works in the states for owning 2 bikes.

The only solution to insuring each bike separately is to pay for the bigger premium and have the ins. active on only one at a time...usually for large blocks of time ...like 6 months. You have to call in to swap the coverage from one bike to another and get new slips.

Which company did this?

Not only did we have to pay nearly double rate for two bikes, when my wife got a scooter and was M licensed I had to have her on the policy as a new rider zero experience and a 1000cc and a 620cc and she couldn't start one if she wanted to let alone ride one.

 Really? Are you sure?

Multi-line discount for me was about 10-15% *OFF* per vehicle, not extra... This is for car, motorcycle, snowmobile, etc.

What company is charging you 10-15% extra per car?

I'm actually in contact with a SF agent at the moment cause I need to do a couple things for my bike therefore need to get it insured before handing the bike off to someone.

You DO NOT get a discount for insuring multiple bikes ONLY cause they're considered "recreational vehicles". The insurance premium would be what it is as if you were getting a stand alone policy if you're insuring them at the same time.

I get a multi bike discount through TD Meloche Monnex. I ride a Honda VTR1000F, and a Yamaha TW200 as my commuting/around town/trail bike. The TW is only a couple hundred a year because of the multi bike, and the VTR is under $1100 a year. I'm 33, no tickets, and riding for 13 years. Got my truck and the wife's car with them as well.

No, the TW200 is only a couple hundred a year, because it's a TW200, and they cost a couple hundred a year to insure.

If you had your VTR and say, a 600RR, you would pay your 1100 for the VTR and another 1100 for the 600RR. A 5 or 10% discount on two sport bikes is basically nothing.
