I am currently 18 hoping to get my liscence m1 and m2 in the next 2-3 months i have my G and got my g1 when i was 16.
I am hoping to buy a bike withing a year so maybe my insurance will be lower if they see ive had my liscence for a bit.

Do any of you have any idea what kind of insurance ball park id be looking at for a 125cc or 250cc bike?

Also if i so start on a 125cc CBR how quickly would i get bored of them and would they be good for sommuting to downtown and bike four days in a week ?
IM REALLY ANXIOUS TO START RIDING AND DO NOT WANT TO WAIT ANY MORE THEN I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO

THANK YOU

1 to 12 grand for insurance. I'm assuming you didn't like anything you saw in the insurance stickies or what any insurance agents quoted you so I'm giving it some variance.
CBR125 isn't exciting if you are fat. It will commute and do all the things motorcycles do, but you saw that in the stickies too right?

Dude, before partaking into any two-wheeled activities, please take some grammar and spelling lessons.

It is very painful to read what you posted.

And you're looking at a minimum of 2 grand for insurance, being 18 sucks for this purpose.

Ride safely.

Where are the stickies ? sorry new to the website

and no im not fat aha i weigh 140 atm and i wont be 18 when i get insurance ill probably be turning 20

How hard is it to call up an insurance company? Go to the insurance sub-forum, look at the threads at the top.
I got my M1 last may, began riding soon after. Tip: look for a old and/or small displacement bike....

You're looking at around $3000 for the first year on a cbr125. It will get better as time goes on but I don't really think its worth paying $3000 for a year.

Hahahaha... try minimum 3 grand. I was getting "a deal" at $3200 full coverage last season and rates only dropped for me to $2000 for this next season.

OP get a 250, the cbr125 is just a bicycle with a motor. A 250 won't cost much more for insurance and it's still ridable on the highway because you aren't at the rev limiter the whole time.

How fast you grow out of the bike depends on you.
I grew out of my 250 before the end of my first season, but I stuck with it because you can never get too much practice and I didn't really have the money to move up. The cbr125 was fun in the parking lot while taking my safety course, but I'd probably want to get a 250 after a week of riding it on the street.

How old were you when you got that quote?

My brother also rides a cbr 600 and hes with statefarm paying 1400 roughly if i call statefarm and insure 2 bikes with them would my insurance be lower ?

Or would his insurance go up since there are 2 riders in the family ?

You haven't had your "G" license long enough to qualify with SF.
If they did, you would be primary on one and it would be through the roof, if you were occasional on the other they would both be through the roof.

PS. To get exact quotes, call the insurance companies directly, if not your just getting random opinions thrown at you.

As mentioned read the stickies about newb's getting insurance and it will tell you which insurance company to call to get your quote (Have some lube ready)

How 'bout sticking with a cruiser/standard for the next year or two, perhaps something from the 80s. Def cheaper rates. Not sure how a dual sport would be rated but it wouldn't hurt to consider your options.
Unless money isn't an issue, you're SOL

I have a buddy's 2006 ninja 250 in my garage that he may be willing to sell for a lil over 1G if you're interested. Only ~500kms(or ~1500kms, can't remember) on it!

You're better off taking the money you'd spend on insurance and get yourself a dirt bike. Learn on it, take your first fall on it and then sell it for 80-90% of what you paid for it in a year or two.

It will make you a better rider on the street and save you some cash.

Thats my .02

Jesus Christ... that was a difficult post to read. +1 on using proper grammar and not sounding like an imbecile.

I have a quote around $875 from Statefarm on a '10 Ninja 250r... but I'm over 25 and have had my G for over 5 years. Other quotes I have got on my 250r were around $2000 - $3000 at other companies.

If you are going to buy a 250 CBR or 250 Ninja then you'll likely have to pay about $2500-$3500 MINIMUM to be insured, since you are not even close to meeting State Farm's G License requirement.

Not worth paying more than the value of the bike in insurance in my opinion - wait till your older. Just forget about a 600cc bike - you won't be able to afford it.
