Insurance for Triumph Street Triple RS??

Thinking of doing a trade in and one of the bikes i'm considering is a 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS. My current insurance company is not sure if they are able to insure it, but got a quote, and another vendor today told me they can't insure naked sports bikes.

Has anyone out there been able to get this bike insured? If so, with whom? And is it costing you both arms and both legs?

Thanks!

Huh? Like, nakeds specifically? Or is that they don't insure any sports bikes. Who was the provider for that quote?

Just deal with VIN information when you want a quote, they really have no clue about motorcycles,
they make money by moving money, money and VIN's
plus a whole bunch of missing information like, have you been insured with a clean motorcycle riding record for the last 6 + years

Dalton Timmis was able to run me a quote for that bike earlier this year.

I was quoted DOUBLE the premium of my current bike (2010 Daytona 675)

See there you go, look at the horsepower specs for those 2 motorcycles.
Insurance companies are clueless and their rates make zero sense.

any sports....

im with echelon at the moment, and also spoke to allstate.

I don't think it's the class of bike but the specific bike you are looking at. I just insured an fz8 with echelon and it was a few hundred less per year than my sport touring was. Before getting the Yamaha I looked at the street triple R and it was almost double the insurance. I can imagine the RS is even more.

First they said sport bikes = restricted, so what's a sport bike we asked  so they said one of those crotch rocket things with a full fairing. Then the rates for anything with a fairing became a risk, then manufactures responded with the 'naked' bikes :/ same bike actually, they just left off some bodywork, insurance companies respond with oh, we don't insure those naked things now either, it got too expensive.

.... and the beat goes on, the beat goes on.

They are wising up to Naked Bikes especially with some of them now approaching 200 BHP.

I was shocked when by “Old Guys Bike” 2017 BMW R1200R increased 52% from the $1100 I was paying.

Turns out that the insurance companies (Wawanesa) put high rates on bikes and other toys and then allow big discounts when cars and a house are added.

I could not add my cars as they are covered under my former employer’s fleet policy.

protip, if they give you a quote, that means they insure it.

I've been finding a lot of these people are lazy and dont want to press a few buttons on a computer for you to give you a quote, and give you every excuse in the book, see exhibit A:

When I was hunting for a new bike, I was told they dont 'do enduros' (her words) in response to me seeking a quote for the ducati monster ?
same with the hyperstrada and hypermotard(they are sporty supermotos I would say, but def not offroad worthy)

I told her to try anyway and she did, and to her surprise, got some good quotes!

Long story short, if they can give you a quote, they do in fact provide insurance for it.

As for the street triple, its been around a while, and has a long statistical history, i've heard from several people that they got unreasonably high quotes for them

The "quote" i got for the RS is just a couple of bucks more than my current cost for my 2019 T120. I too think it was weird that at first she was like, "oh we can't insure that" then after I asked her to check again she was able to quote it. She may have been looking at a speed triple not a street triple? Anyway..., it does seem to be getting a bit harder these days ..

That's because you did not give her the VIN
it's all they understand. VIN, risks and money.

If you really want to see them squirm, ask them what make model and year motorcycle they can offer the absolute cheapest rates on, for you.

Got an excellent quote from DesJardins for my current bike and even better for the RS! Regardless if I get a new bike or not, I am switching stat.
They gave me a good rate on my Tuono as well, even without bringing any cars or house. I didn't quote any other bikes with them but they seem friendly to new business right now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Interested to get your take on the striple if you end up buying.

I had my luck with allstate, as opposed to desjardins whose rate was just brutal.

Paying 1200$ a year for 2005 rocket 3 with liability only.

M since 2013, 47 years old.

I wish this was possible... Such a s***storm trying to juggle between the bike I want, and the bike I can afford to insure. Just constantly making phone calls and keeping a damn spreadsheet of rates etc... So annoying...
