Insurance for Track Bikes?

So I've gone through most of the threads, and can't see where anyone has talked about insurance. Sure if you have a street bike, it would be covered (sort of), but what about a "track only" bike? Is there an insurer that would issue theft insurance coverage? Do any of you with dedicated track bikes have coverage or is it just part of the risk? I understand that you won't get collision or liability, but what about theft? Or just bring a nice dog and chain him to the bike? Thanks for any info.

I actually called my State Farm agent about that a couple of weeks ago and I told her the bike will not be plated or going on the road.
I also made sure that she knew it is a track bike.
My bike has a clean title and the ownership is under my name, which she asked to see a copy of.
She said she can insure it for fire and theft and that if the bike or anything was stolen off the bike it will be covered as long as I have my receipts.

I do have an existing policy with SF.

No such thing exists.
State Farm will not insure you if you only want fire theft for one bike/vehicle.
I believe you have to have an existing policy to get that option.

Here is her info, if you want to double check;

She's out in Pickering, but a phone call won't hurt.

BTW....... "FIRE" coverage does not mean that if you crash and the bike catches fire, it will be covered :p

Insurance companies will not insure individual parts on the bike. This is unheard of. "Ummm so someone stole my Ohlins rearshock while I was sleep, CAHN I HAZ A NEW ONESZ!?!?!"

That's what I was told, I swearz. lol...
She even said she would call me back once she can confirm everything.
I haven't added the bike to my current policy as of yet, I keep forgetting to do so.

Caboose, that's why I'm asking. My insurer won't give me theft insurance without liability coverage. And no liability coverage without plates. I have other bikes, cars, house etc. with these guys. Mina, I don't doubt what you were told, but I'm skeptical that this would cover you away from your home address. I think I'll make a call.....

Post back with your findings.
I'll call them again tomorrow and add it to my policy, I keep forgetting to grab the vin/ownership.

So basically she hasn't confirmed anything... so I wouldn't hold any hopes for this. She does understand the concept of motorcycles on closed circuits, right?

Even street bikes aren't covered for individual pieces being thieved off the bike. Either the whole bike gets stolen, or you get nothing.

I wonder if I could claim "Dozens of people stole my whole motorcycle in individual pieces... can you cover each and every piece?"

Sorry, I worded that wrong.
She confirmed it and then got back to me and told me "Yes, we can cover you for fire and theft, as long as you keep all your invoices"...
You've planted a seed of doubt, I will call again.

I would ask WHERE it would be covered and define what circumstances are acceptable. I don't suppose they will like a "Someone spilled race fuel and my bike caught fire!!!" call lol

(PS: Anyone have an Ohlins invoice I can borrow?)

By the way people are picking on Mina it makes me think that nobody has coverage? It would seem that anything meant to be plated on the road (bike, car) cannot be insured except maybe when stored in your own garage. My insurer says lawn mowers and golf carts no problem on the house policy, but no track bikes. Probably a good topic of discussion for the insurers at the bike show.......

skapan you have answered your own question. You can get a policy that will cover trailer and all contents but the trackbike. That's it.

I just called again and spoke with a different person than I did the first time.
They said they can do fire and theft or "parking" insurance.
The bike or any parts would be covered if it was stolen from the registered address. i.e. your home.
$500 deductible.

I swear I don't do drugs. lol

I thought so. Meh, I have a pretty secure bunker.

I called SF and they said not even fire/theft.

There is a company in Alberta - Competition Insurance, that does "off track" for cars and bikes. Tried to find the original post but can't locate it on the forums I read. Anyway I sent in an application back around Sept. and got a quote which I thought was too high for the risk for fire and theft. IIRC it was around $ 550 or so for bike and trailer.

Telephone (Toll Free: 1-800-454-5592) or Email Ralph Zutter directly at
ZUTTER@COMPETITION.CA
for a quote. OR

I went through this many years ago with a track bike, same outcome as most here, no, no and no. Recently I called (State Farm, whom I currently insured with) about getting trail liability on my dirt bike and to my surprise she said I could get FULL coverage on that bike. Green plated, never a chance to be blue plated, full coverage. She confirmed it with head office and I now have liability and comprehensive for $155/year.

I'm going to have to call about my track bike now too. Didn't think to ask her at the time as I'd already been through that situation long ago. Maybe their policies have changed.

Excellent Chinto, just what I was looking for. Have sent them an e mail.
