Insurance for 20-21 year old, GSXR 600

I have a clean record except 1 small ticket for (no insurance slip) my sister took the documents out like an idiot. Turning 20 this august, planning to get a gsxr 600 next august when I will be 21.

License : M2 : G (5 years will complete 2015/02/05) FEB 5
Age : 21(Next august)
Bike : GSXR 600 K6-K8
No motorcycle insurance before;
Postal code = L8K 5N2 = Hamilton
I have had my M2 for about 3 months, so next august will be 1.5 Years.

I have been riding in the track for a while so I do have experience, I don't want to go on a 250 or 300.

Please advise me for some good insurance quotes, which companies would be good. And if anyone is around 21, please tell me how much you pay and company, etc.

Thanks.

Good luck with that... Very few people own a SS at your age, if any at all.
Statefarm is probably your only choice, you're looking at $3000++ Give them a call.

My buddy has a cbr600 at 19yr, but he's from out west. Got his G licence at 14.

It would be around $3500 and not a penny less, and I'm being optimistic here, it can be $4,500 more realistically. They say that State Farm is the best for SS insurance prices but personally I hate them and would not touch them with a 10-ft pole after they wanted $1,900 to insure me a measly 350cc dual-sport bike.

@ KARGO: What are you talking about? Most SS 600cc bike riders I've seen are between 19-25, they either ride without insurance or their wealthy parents pay for them, or they ride them under their dad's policy.

OP can your father get the policy and you ride under his name until you turn 25?

I paid my own when I was 25 and bought on my own brand new (cbr600rr). Some of us don't mooch off parents.

Agreed it will be very high but the only way to truly know the price is to start calling brokers. For that see the sticky above. Online quotes are notoriously inaccurate.

P.S - Remove the postal code from your post, they are more accurate than you think at giving your location. It's enough to give a localized area to search for a nice SS to steal.

when you get 21 y/o, the rate reduces slightly, so wait until that age.

but the insurance will still be close to $3000 for supersport. Last month i checked for a friend, it was $2800 for a new R6 from john duffy

Sorry to say but Ontario motorcycle insurance is among the most expensive in the world.

That's why some people ride without insurance, and as far as i know they never get pulled over.

Last point, the violation ticket you got related to insurance slip, unless you had no actual insurance,

normally the judge/proscuter drops the ticket when you present proof of insurance from the time of event.

So I have doubt that your sister simply took it from the car.

I paid 1600-1800 a year when I was 23. This was like 3 years ago. Zx6r on Brampton. I had multiline discount tho. SF.

I have no idea where you guys are getting these rates under $3000 as a newly licensed young rider, but my lowest quote for a CBR125 at the age of 19 (for the first year) was $3500. I shopped around (JRD, CornerstoneIB, Manthas, Allstate, SF, TD). Allstate, SF and TD simply gave me even higher rates. JRD, CSIB, and Manthas quoted me with facility.

Most of the people I know that aren't insuring their motorcycle (SS) with a car and are under the age of 21 pay around the $4000-$5000 mark.
Or... They're committing insurance fraud by being insured under their parents policy as a secondary but they're the primary rider and paying around $2500.

PS. If you're looking for quotes for when you're 21 and its OVER a year away, you're looking too far ahead. Tell the agents that, and they'll tell you the quote is inaccurate if its over 3 months away.

Also, why not the CBR500 or 650s?

When I was 19 (1st month M2), I BOUGHT insurance for Ninja 250 at $1700/year from John Duffy UNDER MY OWN NAME.

Everyone else that I know of this age were also quoted similar insurance premium as me.

You must be really bad luck getting over $3000 for a CBR125.

Most of the people I know that aren't insuring their motorcycle (SS) with a car and are under the age of 21 pay around the $4000-$5000 mark.

I PAID $2700 for Yamaha R6 at age 21 from John Duffy UNDER MY OWN NAME.

I DO NOT HAVE ANY RELATIONSHIP WITH ANY BROKERS OR INSURANCE COMPANY, I AM JUST A REGULAR CUSTOMER WHO SHOPS AROUND.

Looks like ONLY YOU are having the issue of high premium

Also, why not the CBR500 or 650s?

That's because the OP requested GSXR600, and he is looking for insurance rate. Not asking for advice on another bike for the purpose of cheaper insurance.

Thank you.

Lol Y so serious bro?

He said not 250 or 300, so I just simply asked why not.

Don't get your panties in a knot over a random post.

You also forgot to quote me on quotes that arent accurate especially for over a year down the road.

I would think most companies would refuse to insure or give a 5-figure quote. He won't be eligible for statefarm until 2015

OP get your M1 and M2 and soon as you can and hold on to it. Then wait till your 25 the money you save by waiting could pay for the first 2-4 years of riding after you turn 25 or start a nice little RSP or top up you TFSA.

Penny saved and all that

Thanks for your comments and advices, I will probably go with state-farm once I am 21, if I get a decent quote, if not then I will see if I can find another way.

at 21 in Toronto, 2011 cbr600rr i paid $4000 per year. Up for renewal soon but i don't expect much change

How many years ago was this LOL

Complete and utter ******** in that post if it's within the past 4 years. John Duffy won't even ensure an R6. Every quote I checked before I turned 25 for a 600 supersport was in the 3000-5000+ range and I had a spotless record + live in Markham (funny enough, if you cross the street insurance rates go up, must be all the new immigrants).

This is kinda rediculous with all the insurance companies and blacklisting of SS bikes.
I am 33 years old and its near impossible to find an insurance company other than statefarm.

Its like they are closing one segment of riders and discouraging the use of these bikes on the road.
