I don't know about world politics, but I'll agree that Canada's political spectrum is shifted further left than the US political spectrum. Where Harper falls relative to Obama is close, but I'd still say to the right, especially if you consider what both leaders would like to do if unconstrained; by congress in the case of Obama, and by the majority of voters in Canada in Harper's case.

You are absolutely right. Canadian government is shadowing the republicans. From their Anti_terror law to the new C-51, they are becoming more and more a police state which is slowly biting out of our charter of rights, using fear mongoring. Taking us further into more wars that are not ours and .... So sadly, youre absolutly right. Add to that, his unconditional and unquestioned devotion to the state of Israel. An occupying state which more and more EU countries, including Englans, France and even U.S are backing away from.

The party position MAY be more towards the centre but if you look how Harper votes in free votes you will see HE is far right of centre, US style religious right. He just can't stay there and expect to keep his job (they drift in and out when they think no one is watching), so the party position drifts more centre—they are just being pragmatic. Unconstrained by having to win elections would change this.
That is my concern with Brown, even when the party tells him to vote centre (not a free vote), when it comes to women’s rights, gay rights, equal rights in general he votes against the party and against the rights of others. Likely why he is a nobody federally (cannot follow orders). He is far right of even Harper. He may say the right things but actions are what counts, the voting is public record. Cut of the same cloth as the US guys we think are crazy...

Well she wants them to comply with the law. I don't disagree tho honestly if it was my i would a problem trying to compel someone to go against their beliefs but in this country its illegal to not offer your services to someone cause of their gender. TBH i think that is kinda silly I don't see a problem with having a mens old barber or women's only salon. But then what about transgendered Men they still would probably not want to touch the hair of someone who transitioned to a Man.

they are not. look at obamas policies and look at our government and its very close. C51 isnt as harsh as the patriot act and Obama renewed that didn't he? he also didnt close guantanamo, and is still fighting wars...Canada has legal gay marriage, legal marijuana with prescription, full healthcare. how do you think the PC are even close to the republicans. you guys are drinking the canadian kool aid

I specifically said Republicans. And yes, our laws are not as severe as those running parralel in states but we are moving in the same directin of taking away civil rights in the name of protection. But we are moving away from the centre and towards the right in a very clear way since the conservatives took power. Harper even wanted to privatize healthcare if you remember. Leave it to him and he would privatize even water and other basic human rights.
and im saying he isn't like reublicans. and don't go off on what you assume he will do but rather point out what he has done that is so radical like republicans would do? like it or not Obama and harper are very much alike in their policies

No assumptions, he did want to privatize healthcare. I just follow the pattern of his thinking.
Also yes, Obama in fact did go wild with the patriot act when bringing NDAA which was unprecedented and too away American's right to a fair trial or any trial really. He also put NSA on steroid but historically speaking, republicans are the hardliners who push fo privaizzation and limitless money in politics (corporate donations to friendly politicians) and the Patriot act came into effet during the Bush era.
So no, i dont think Obama is the nice friendly guy everyone makes him out to be. But Democrats are on the left and Conservatives here are on the far right. Hence why i said republicans,
Not really similar expect in name the effects were quite different. Otherwise why would you need a state level law.. not that any actual problem was addressed with the law cause no religious liberty was ever impeded.

She is making the point that what they are doing is illegal and that in itself is a good thing. However I do wonder if her motives are genuinely about the law or is she on a rant because some immigrant inconvenienced her and she's going to make him pay.
If she's on a justice crusade turn her loose on HTA-172
I will be interested in seeing the outcome. Will there be an unjust appeasement of a minority, fatwa reprisal or Canada-love-it-or-leave-it?

There is a precedent from a while back when female customs officers were ushered out of their posts while a particular religious sect went through.
