Indian

It’s one of those things you don’t notice how many are out there until you look for them. When I went to NB in the summer I noticed it was predominantly BMW and Indian bikes putting in the miles on the trans Canada.
Indian/Victory are a great product. My Vic did 40,000km without issue and my buddy has a Scout he loves and rides more than his Harley decker (because that’s always in the shop).

Does Indian do test ride days?
I've been on one yeah but that was back in 2014 or so when they also had Victory bikes.

My favourite from the few I test rode was indeed the Scout - was just so revvy and nimble. It's a bit smallish so if you're tall/big it may not work but was perfect for me at 5'7".

Thanks! I’m 5’7” so should fit well. The Rebel almost felt cramped for me. Which was rather surprising.

They are good looking bikes, that classic American styling is very appealing, at least to me. Not too many on the road. I met a guy earlier this year with a 2016 not sure which model, wasn't to happy with it, couldn't explain exactly why though. But it was nice looking. At first glance their version of the Harley Batwing looks appealing (Roadmasters & Cheiftens) but seeing a few other photos of it and I just think it look weird, but then again I am more partial to my full fairing anyway ;)

Were you comparing the new sportster with the scout?
No.

I like the Sportster look and that’s about it. GTAM beat it out of me to want one already.

The Scout looks like a good option.

As for comparison, outside of looks no clue how they compare. But it appears the Scout is much more favoured here.

When are you planning to buy, Mimico?

I wonder if they (Indian) will give us a group buy discount lol

Got it.

As an existing sportster owner, i would suggest the indian.
Really? May I ask why? You on the 883 or 1200?

I’ll be honest the Sportster look just does it for me. Especially with the non-spoked wheels. Love the orangish anniversary edition.

2013 HD 48

Riding geometry does not let you ride more than an hour without a break. Gas tank does not give you more than 100kms before next fill up. Vibrations will wear you down.

My preferences for the turn signals are what you have on a metric. HD has each signal switch on each side.

I may end up at this weeks burger meet. If you and i do end up there, feel free to sit. You will understand the ergonomics.

To be clear, i love sportsters. I just think the indian will give you more distance and comfort

Just buy what you like 🤷‍♂️
Agreed. However…a good looking bike does NOT mean it’s a good functioning bike.

Thanks for the offer @bigsix i believe the burger meet up is downtown this week so I won’t be able to make it. The next 2 are out closer this way. But I’ll see how Wednesday rolls out as I have the viewing this week for our friends dad that passed last week.

True, maybe, I know some days my bike doesn't run so well, but I still enjoy riding the heck out of it, even slowly.
I was dead set on the Sportster until I heard from GTAM. A few private messages and real life reviews turned me off real fast.

Comfort I can deal with, but 120-150km/fill-up basically kills it for me right from the start. Maybe I’m spoiled but I can pull 350km on the X before I start sweating.

Should buy myself a small tank to keep fuel and just for kicks see when it actually runs out. My max is approx 375km or so with 200mL left in the tank. Takes 17L and I filled up 16.8L.

Not to sidetrack this thread but, sportsters come in a variety of configurations. From 2.1 to 4.5 gallon fuel tanks, mid and forward controls, drag bars to apes, and many used bikes are mildly customized in one way or another.

The “Nightster” and “Roadster” are pretty nice machines with 1200 engines. Most have Vance and Hines slip on exhausts, upgraded A/C and updated fuel map of the ecu.

I’ve ridden a “Custom” and “Roadster” from London to Ottawa a few times found them comfortable when properly set up.

They both had windshields to help with windblast and didn’t go much more than 120km/h on the 400 series hwy.

One had mid controls with optional highway pegs and the other had forward controls and drag bars. Both had aftermarket seats.

I like the ride, sound and feel of HD Sportsters. But, I did spend the winters buying things to suite me better.

The Scout is definitely appealing and have no issues with them at all.

The Sportsters just has so many out in the market with the same basic architecture and the aftermarket is huge. It’s hard to skip them over for a Scout.

I never found the HD air cooled mill to be a problem. But, also rode 1200, not the 883.

So I agree some owners won’t find the Sportster a great weekend touring machine but, others iron butt them just the same. So it’s a your mileage may vary kind of thing.

Yeah that is some awesome range and fuel economy, I remember Macdoc posting stuff about the trip out West and the range they were getting and was feeling envious. I get about 350 k's, but that is with 6 gallon tank (22 litres), at about 5.6 l/100. In a Facebook group a Goldwing owner posted they were getting 500k from a tank...I thought that was amazing. But ya the peanut tank on Sportsters isn't great, but that can be swapped out as well.
