Or that, I woudn't take it to Ted but i guess it is more convenient

I am not going to smear any shop for no reason unless it is snow city...they suck!

There are very limited amount of things i would bring my bike to ted for, most of them i can do myself because they are basic
, let's just put it that way...really nice guy and all

I guess I will take it to Ted then.

One of the guys working for Ted is a total noob. But I believe Ted works on all the tires personally.

I will post the result.

One thing that was kind of scary is that you said you chose to ride with the object still in the tire. Very risky, if it had not punctured it yet riding on it may force it in further and cause a sudden loss of pressure and you crashing!

Get it fixed with a patch from the inside and you will never have to worry about it. Rope plugs can fail! Why risk you *** for a few dollars to get it done right?

This is just my opinion, but I would change the tire. I've patched tires on a car, and I know others who have patched bike tires with success (either lucky or one damn good patch) but ImHO, it's not worth my life, or least putting her down. And I would DEFINITELY not be doing high speed runs with a patched tire...

i know the extra cost sucks, seeing as its a newer tire, but I would change it...

How does that happen ? Any videos ?
How it happens is that whatever is stuck in your tire comes out, and you riding 2up with all that weight on the back tire = instant deflation with bad results.

This happened to me about 2 weeks ago, I got on the QEW with a passenger at Parklawn going west. Just before the 427 ramp I noticed the rear getting squirrely. Then all of a sudden Im on the 427 north ramp and the bike will not turn with leaning and going from side to side 1-2 feet wildy. I had to slow right down and use push steering to make it turn and stay upright. As I came out of the ramp, my tire was completely flat by that time. I limped it to the next off ramp...Looked at the tire and I found a large hole, with no object in it...So whatever was in my tire flew out as soon as I got on the highway and up to highway speeds...

In my earlier days I most likely would have crashed on that ramps...

Look I just went through this exact same thing, piece of plastic pierced my tire, tons of life left in it. Thing is it didn't hold pressure so I had to plug it. I used a rope style plug kit and it worked a treat. I took it to Rosey Toes the next day and the guy there, I don't remember if it was Ted or not, told me to not worry, the plug looked good and he didn't want to patch and plug it from the inside like I wanted. I took his word then gave it some more thought and called up Heritage Auto. Daniel there told me their liability insurance won't even allow them to patch and plug motorcycle tires, and his personal opinion was to not do it either.

Bridgestone (not my tire brand but an actual authority on tires none the less), don't recommend riding a patched and plugged tire above 130km/hr. There's also horror stories about a bad plug allowing air between the cords and causing catastrophic failure/separation. Your plug could simply fail normally as well at speed causing sudden loss of pressure and you can see examples of that on Youtube.

What's your safety worth? Hopefully more than the $150 to get and install a new tire. I opted for peace of mind and got a new one.

yea, if you read the warning labels on my dishwasher, it says not to pour gasoline inside!!!

Of course manufactures are going to say that, they want to cover their ***** and not be sued when some idiot applies some electrical tape to the tire and call it a patch.

I will say it again, I won't get a patch applied by anyone at Rosie Toes, I will however get one (i have) done at a competent shop like competition cycle or Z1.

Do you throw your bike in the garbage and buy a new one when you dump it from a parked position? no? why not? why risk it, is your safety not worth the money?
Let me guess you bring it to a competent garage and get it inspected and fixed right? how come is so different with a tire

people like to scare others with statements that are not justified in my opinion

This is your problem, if you think about it, was it worth the effort for him to take your tire out, patch it and put it back in to charge you what? 40 bucks? Once again, Rosie is good for safety inspections and if oyu have an old beat up bike that you want to keep running at a minimum cost, apart from that I wouldn't step foot in there

He probably didn't want to do the job and sent you your way!

The CT plug is good but not a permanent fix, it is only to get you to the shop. I saw Dave install a permanent one form the inside and I can tell you, that thing is not going anywhere

After hearing the positive feedback of my neighbour for Rosey Toes, how he got the patch installed and it lasted 10k kms until he had to change the tire due to overwear, I just took it there.

$60.

I watched the whole thing as Ted was working on it, and he did a beautiful job, IMO.

He also checked out the front pads and took the bike for a ride upon my request to make sure everything else was fine. He lubed the chain as usual, as well as every other thing. Can't help but to love this guy seriously =)

Thank you guys for your advices. Very appreciated.

He does patches well, had a lot done by him. But do not let him lube your chain! hahah There will be a big mess all over your bike now.

After the massive amount of complaints he switched to a different brand of chain lube (Wurth HHS-2000 iirc).
