Im buying a truck..

I looked at an avalance when I was in the market and there's no way your fitting two ss in there. I bought a gmc z71 with the 5.3L ext cab regular box and theres JUST enough room to close the tailgate. I get all my gear/dog/wife with one bike comfortably to the track. It'll fit two bikes and equipment in the back and with the seats up in the cab all the gear will fit no problem. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the full size trucks with a v8 (gm's 4. whatever is apparently no good though)

I have a 2011 F150 xcab, 5.0L, 4x4, 6.5 ft box.

It costs about 150 bux to fill her from the gas light and that gets me pretty damn close to 1000 k's. The economy meter shows 13L/100k of mixed driving.

I love my truck. I used to have a 2000 f150 before this one and the new one is like a rolls compared to where I came from.

Just my .02

I have a GMC canyon extended cab 2wd with the 5.3 V8 I get around 12L per hundred mixed driving. I also never put any weight in the back and do not need it, no problem in snow ever. I do have a locking diff and traction control. with the tail gate 1/2 way up it (the canyon has a 3 position tail gate up down and half way) works perfect for bikes. Just another option to look at. Or get a Silverado extended cab 6.6 box with a 6 speed and 5.3 bulletproof truck and not to bad on gas. You do not need 4wd in Southern ontario with a locking diff a 2wd will go through as much as you need and save some gas and maintenance costs in the long run.

I have an 07 silverado quad cab ltz, and the fit and finish just isn't worth the price I paid!!! It's been a good truck so far but nothing special, it's a pig on gas with the 6.0L. If you get the basic model with the 5.3L or the 4.8L motor it will be a great truck for the money and what you want, haul your bikes. I've had two bikes in the back and it was fine!!

Good luck on your search , research, research, research my man.

Pretty sure it doesn't sip fuel ANYTHING like a Honda Civic.

They only get about 2 mpg better than the V8. I have been researching it for months. It's good for a truck, but bottom line is it's a big heavy truck. Expect 17mpg at best in the city and 22 on the highway. That's what drivers are reporting.

In short if fuel economy is a concern just get a trailer, much easier loading anyway.

But I do like the F150 ecoboost, it is a nice truck. I'm thinking of getting the crew cab ktr 4x4 myself.

You own one? .. probably not. Currently im getting between 10 /11 km/per 100.
The energuide rating for this truck on the highway is 9.5lper100

So the Civic gets 8L/100km combined. You are getting about 11L/100km combined. Or as a percentage using 37% more fuel than the civic. Ya you are right. Mileage just LIKE the Civic.

11L/100km (as measured by inferno) is about 21MPG which falls right in your range there for what to expect from the truck.

beat me to it, lol

You just reminded me of the Tundra 5.7L that right there is a badass truck boy.

I have an 08 and love it, not one problem since I bought it. Soon enough Im going to trade in for a 2012, going limited this time ....

My work truck is a 2004 GMC 2500 ( 3/4 ton ) 4 wd with 6.0 litre. I carry at least 1,000 lbs at all times and have just over 300,000 kms. Not much has needed service although my air conditioning is now shot and will cost about $1,ooo to fix. My average is usually about 16.8L/100km and much better when empty or staying under 105 Km on secondary hwys.
The other extreme has been 26L/100 when hauling a 24' V nose trailer with my formula ford racecar.
Haven't checked but last night when I was checking out # 13 Southwood road... it might have been close to that.

All in all a very good truck. I do drive about 15-20Km over most of the time but also look ahead and anticipate traffic flow which certainly helps with the fuel mileage and the brake pad life. On my second set of brake rotors now

I would highly recommend another GM truck...my last pickup was a F-150 and I would not say the same about that! Last truck was a 2wd and I once buried it in some mud at a storage place....4wd for me now!

.. ahh never mind.

"almost like" doesnt mean "exactly"

But i guess you caught that in my post the first time there keyboard commando

Pretty damn close to Civic fuel economy, and buy in price, and hell of a lot more reason to own it. It'll do anything the Civic will and a whole lot more. You'd have to drive a CIvic alot to make the savings in fuel worth anything. I spent almost 9 grand last yr on fuel, and I still wouldn't trade the usefulness of a truck for an econobox, becasue I'd also have to accept all of the crappy limitations that come with the econobox. No thx.

I have no idea how anyone who owns motorcycles ever makes it without owning a truck or van. A truck has so many uses, from hauling furniture to yard waste to broken motorcycles to renovation materials to trackbikes to the track, on and on. If I could only have one cage, it'd be a full size truck or van above all else.

Buy whatever size motor you like but most pickups can do what you want without going big. I have two family members with big trucks and can use them if I need, so I went with a 2.7L 4 cylinder and love it, especially for gas mileage. When I needed it for work I didn''t need it for weight especially all the time. Even with that I can tow 3,500lbs, and have no problems doing that. Yeah your gas mileage will be worst than that of most cars, but really think about how much you need to be spending.

As for in the winter, I use 4x4 lots because I have it, and find it doesnt add up the fuel costs much and its amazing for traction, but I also have winter tires. Just want to mention that I found some heavy rubber "mats" (were from a factory conveyor belt), and I'm sure you can find similar, but these mats are heavy, so add lots of weight in the rear if I want them and dont take up any cargo room at all, and since their rubber, they don't shift.

i have the 6.5 feet 05 f150 and my 02 sv650 is about 3 inches too long for the door to close just to give you a reference to work with.
this is with the bed cover.

I am looking to get rid of my f-150 4.6L v8 and going to a f-150 ecoboost has more horse power than my v8 twin turbo v6 check it out.

I know what truck I want!!
As soon as the specs were leaked, I knew it would be awesome....but the durability seems to be fantastic, and I have always thought that turbocharging is the way things should go. I would also like to see a manufacturer build a small 3.5-4.0 litre turbo diesel specifically for half ton trucks, making around 400-450 ft lbs of torque. I think it'd be reasonable to expect 30 mpg from one.

I don't see why a Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon can't carry 2 bikes comfortably.
Sure the tailgate will most likely have to be down but that shouldn't be a problem at all, I consider that a bed extender lol.

After having looked at the EcoBoost videos that someone posted above, I am becoming quite interested in that line of engine as well.

Ive got the new 2011 F150 V6 turbo eco boost engine .. it has power like a diesel yet sips fuel almost like a honda civic and tows just as much if not more than most V8's.

You really want at the very minimum a 6.5 ft bed .. most bikes wont fit properly in a short bed.
+1 great truck awsome motor.
I get 2 SS bikes no problem in my f150 6.5 ft bed.
