Can anyone help give me some advice. I snapped my motorcycle key. I have both pieces of the key but "Ready Sport Honda" tells me ill have to replace the whole unit or see if l can luck out with a lock smith. Can anyone help give me some advice. I just want to ride the thing without paying a lump sum.

Don't you have a spare? almost all bikes come with a spare and making a copy is not that difficult. My old bike had 3 keys, the owner before me made a copy.

Also, check your owners manual, bikes come with a key number that you can give the dealer for them to get you a new key. that of course depends on you having write down the key number on the manual or somewhere.

My keys have a small metallic plate attached to them...that's the key number you'll need to give to the dealer to make you a new copy. Shouldn't be too expensive...

I know for cars the dealers/manufacturers can give you the key # simply from looking at the VIN...not sure if it's the case with bikes as well. You'll have to go with the ownership and all paperwork to prove that you're the owner.

That key was my spare key. It's wasnt the original bike key. It's looking closer and closer that im up "poo" creek

Can the two pieces be glued / brazed /soldered together and used as a pattern for a new key?

Ah. For what it's worth, you can buy the key blanks on eBay and get them cut for much less than the dealer wants for a spare cut.

Good luck with it, I'd go with the lock smith first, before ordering in an ignition, gas tank and seat cylinder assemblies.

A good locksmith can put the 2 pieces together on the key vice on the key machine and make a good key.Call around and ask.

Acme Locksmith in Scarborough on Lawrence Ave stocks blanks for hundreds of bikes. Bring in whats left of your key and let a pro deal with it.

i forget the name of hte place, but there is a locksmith on queensway & kipling... north side of queensway, just east of kipling.

they had no problems cutting numerous bike keys for me.

I had a replacement key from the locksmith on Kingston road, just west of Midland on the north side. $5 a key.

be sure to make more than one copy if it works!

I can set up the bike so it doesn't need a key. Your kill switch will turn the key "on and off". PM me and if you're handy I'll give you the instructions, if not stop by and we'll wire her up for $20.

Sorry to revive this thread but l managed to get my ignition off. Im hoping to entertain the idea of having a locksmith figure out how to produce a new set of keys now that l can bring in the ignition straight to their door.

Any recommandations?!?!

If this works well enough l pretty much have a new ignition/tank/rear lock for sale. Please help, l need to get this bike on the road for the long weekend.

IM BROKE FOR ANY MAJOR ACTIVITIES, AND RIDING IS ALL I'LL NEED TO GET MY THROUGH. :D

OK I am puzzled. As many others have stated why not use a Locksmith? A broken cut key taken to a good Locksmith would have saved you alot of problems.
