I rode squid yesterday.. for science!

The thing I actually LIKE about wind is when it hits me in the chest, it takes the weight off my wrists by lifting my chest up a bit.

One time I was squiding on the highway and I was riding past a construction zone, I guess the wind or something kicked up a bunch of rocks. I would imagine getting shot by a shot gun would feel something like it did.

I just hugged my bike and cried the rest of the way home

I am an ATGATT guy.
However, I went to look at a bike for my 19 yr old son 1.5 hrs from home last week. When I got there, the seller and I chatted about the bike, it's history, etc. Then he said he'd like me to test ride before accepting my money.
So I did. However, I had no gear with me. I was in shorts and a t shirt, no gloves......It was almost terrifying! I felt very vulnerable and was very aware that I had no gear on. When I was young I used to squid every where at Mach V and it never crossed my mind. This was the first time I have squidded since 1998. I also had no ear plugs and every little sound was so loud.
Didn't you ride to BBoyz last night in a t-shirt? Just sayin....

I normally only squid it when booting around the city streets but yesterday, I took it to the highway to see what it was all about since I see quite a few people wearing shorts, helmet, shoes and a tshirt.

Route: I live in Mississauga and headed to Lakeshore & Parklawn area taking 401 to 427 to Gardiner.

I didn't go as far as the shorts, but opted for jeans, my TCX boots, gloves and a tshirt. I ride like this around town sometimes but always wore my leather jacket for highway cruising except for yesterday.

My findings are.. wind freaking hurts! I guess you'd get used to it but I couldn't help but be distracted at how the wind on my arms was annoying as hell! It's not comfortable at all. I think I got pelted with small pebbles a handful of times and it stings like a *****. Of course I never noticed this wearing my leather jacket which might be uncomfortable when stopped, it's a lot more comfortable when moving!

The neck on my tshirt got stretched to hell as well.. the wind on your chest is kind of numbing too. I kept slowing down to around the speed limit because it just wasn't enjoyable on the highway. Riding squid might be nice at slower city speeds but I will definitely not be doing it again on the highway. Too many annoyances that divert your attention away from what's important.

I ended up taking Queensway all the way home to avoid high speed wind that's how annoying it was. :confused1:

I was laughing while reading your post. You sound like my six year old. You'll get use ot it and find that it is so comfortable to ride squid on a very hot day. Not adviseable but better than sweating niagara falls inside your bubble wrap. That is why i love spring and fall. I can ride full gear no problem.

You know, most crashes happen at intersections. You're far more likely to go down on city streets then you are on the highway.

The safe thing to do then is turn of your bike, get off and push it across the pedestrian crossing. problem solved. oh, but make sure there are no banana peels around. Jus kiddin :)

There a tons of threads on this discussion and I don't think that any arguments from either side of the fence will make much impact. I've been wearing gear (at least a jacket) everyday since even today. Today I stopped on the 404 past sheppard to help a fellow biker who ran out of gas, and 20 mins later I was dripping like a mofo. Seriously contemplating riding naked tomorrow, or packing an ice-pack under my gear. Not sure sure how that would go down in the event of a crash though :confused1:

you might even say, it was as annoying as you posting every single inner thought process that fires across your brain cells.

that kind of annoying?

ouch...
