I leave extra early to get down to my bus stop -- usually around 10 minutes earlier than I should need to. Never used to need to, as the bus used to arrive within maybe 2 minutes of the scheduled stop time. But now, it seems almost as if the drivers are just ignoring the schedule altogether and arriving whenever they feel like it. This morning, I was just getting to my stop as I watched my "early" bus to work roll on by the stop, more than 5 minutes early. It happens, and usually if I wave the driver will stop, but this guy looked right at me and went on by. Waited for the "late" bus, no sign of it 10 minutes after its scheduled time.
It's frustrating, people should be able to depend on a transit system to follow its own schedules, especially when the buses don't come all that often on some routes like mine. I've called in to complain before, but that seems to mostly fall on deaf ears; and this seems to be happening far more often than it should. I've been stranded at Don Mills Station a few late nights, because apparently sometimes the buses don't actually pull into the station, and just drop-off/pick-up outside (was told this by a TTC maintenance guy there last time it happened.) Shouldn't happen, and I can only imagine how more vulnerable people might feel being stuck in that situation.
Today's the first time I've taken the bus to work in several months; I'll gladly ride in poor/cold weather, but was worried about ice patches today. Wound up riding in to work anyway, as I couldn't afford to keep waiting, and surprisingly the main roads weren't too bad -- sidestreets, and the parking lot at my work are a different story, had a hard time parking in the ice-rink... heh.
Anyway, just a rant, no real point to this post otherwise, but thought I'd get it off my chest.
