I need some help picking a bike for everyday use and touring..... 6'3, 225lbs

I am 6'5", 210 lbs and I am very comfortable on the F650GS, even though I still have the low seat from the original owner! With the gas tank under the seat, there is lots of room to fold your knees up high around the bike. I am looking for a taller seat if one comes available, or may consider a Sargeant or a Corbin later in the summer.

For comfortable long distance touring, esp at 100km/h and above, an aftermarket windshield is highly recommended. Never had a problem with wind in my legs and lap though.

Don't let the "650" fool you, the 2008 and above have the same 798cc twin engine as the F800GS, just with a milder cam and less aggressive tuning (71 HP @ 7000rpm). Have never driven it 2-up, so I have never had an issue with power as the bike itself is very light, just 390 lbs dry and 440 lbs wet. If you drive much in the city, then you will love the suspension and manoevrability.

Took the new 650 out on a demo day couple weeks back (2up).
Passenger loved the comfort, my only 2 complaints were terrible wind protection (seamed to funnel wind up into your legs and lap) and lack of power.
The 1k model may take care of the power issue but ergo's are the same so wind buffering on the lap would drive me nuts ;).

I might look at the 650 as well but I would like to try one of course. I don't really want to downsize displacement as 90% of the time it would be 2 up riding with the wife.
If you go the V-strom route, given your weight (in addition to your wife's), it might be better for you to try out the DL1000. I have done 800km days with my girlfriend on the back of my V-Strom 650 and it's fine for me - but those days are few and far between. If you are regularly 2up touring then it might be underpowered on the highway. By going with the 1000, you will also lose a bit of fuel economy in addition to the weight gain... but you also gain the dual exhaust which looks much better then the single on the 650.

I also had a 1100 Virago for a few years. The seating position on that bike sucked - too much weight bearing on the tailbone even with an awesome aftermarket seat and backrest. Most standards and upright seated bikes at least allow you to shift your weight from feet to butt to hands. I did like the smooth power of that Virago though.

F800R is a bike that's been on my radar fpra couple of yrs. I just wish it made 20 more hp, and didn't have un-adjustable bottom of the barrell suspension components.
The Husky Nuda, using the F800R's platform, takes care of all of my gripes, except the seat height is the same as my super tall KTM.
When will BMW build the F900R with Husky's motor, adjustable top shelf suspension, and keep the 800's look? That'd be a cool bike!

Nice bike - only 31.5" seat height - that's a fit for me as well and upright seating....all good things. You should enjoy the lighter weight and like the Burgman it has fuel down low.
