I lasted 1 whole month without a speeding ticket

Just take it to trial, like others have said you have nothing to lose. I fought a ticket and had it reduced to 10 over (cop didn't seem to be in a good mood that day and didn't feel like giving me a break since it was the first time I've ever been pulled over for speeding) and that conviction still raised my premium. If you're not sure of what to do or say in court then maybe the investment in a traffic ticket lawyer might just be worth it.

Find out if your insurance company gives you 1 free ticket before they raise your rates ?

Best case scenario: Cop doesn't show up.

Worst case scenario: You're forced to plead guilty to the 10 over.

I don't know of, or heard of, any situations where the charge was bumped back up to the original offense simply because you took it to court.

I know Statefarm didn't care when I had 1 minor ticket. But they did when there was more than 1.
I know Allstate DID care when I had 1 minor ticket, to the tune of increasing my premium by 10%.

Absolutely going to fight it. My ins company just told me that it doesn't matter if its 10 or 20 over - same ****. So I got nothing to lose either way.

Now is it best to file my notice to appear for a Trial NOW or LATER in the 15 day window?? I understand that getting a later date is always better so will I get a sooner date if I file my notice to appear now and a later date if I file on the last possible day or does it not matter when you file it.

Thanks

Won't make a difference.. I just did it at my earliest convenience (knew I was gonna drive by the courthouse anyway). That way you get the monkey off your back. If you wanna fight it yourself, prep a disclosure request but don't send it until you have your notice of trial. Otherwise, it's Redline for ya, bud.. Wouldn't trust anyone else

+1 for Redline
Let them work their magic.

Just sayin, if you don't win, you will have increased the time the ticket stays on your record for the amount of time it took to get to trial. I would say better to get a minor ticket now, and then fight the next one until your first one is off your record.

The worst-case is you get the initial fine, pay more, and now have to wait an extra year for the ticket to 'come off'
Was the guy OPP or a regular cop? OPP always show up to court. And yes, no point in going first attendance, you will not gain anything, in fact it will be used against you if your decide to go to chart 11b right to speedy trial.

Lots of bad advice posted (paying tickets).

When it comes to tickets, fight EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your record clean. Yes, you have to pay for the service. It's part of the game of owning a motorcycle and the costs of the dog & pony show.

Good luck.

Yes I agree - I am definitely going to fight it. It just sucks that you have to go downtown to file everything and wait in line for 2 hours every time.

If you take it to trial, my understanding is that your ticket does not show up on your record until you get convicted on the day of the trial. Then the ticket stays on your record for however many years from that day, not from the day you received the ticket.

So if your insurance comes up for renewal while waiting for your trial, your premiums would not increase because the ticket has not shown up on your record. So assuming OP will get convicted, it would make sense to me to delay the conviction date as much as possible, assuming your premiums will decrease as you gain riding experience in the eyes of the insurance company.

A 10% increase on OP's premiums 1 year from now should be a lesser dollar amount than a 10% increase on OP's current premiums, especially since OP is a new rider.

I recently had to go through this exact process with the downtown location. I showed up around 9:30 am and there was NO LINE! Maybe only a handful of people there.

I was actually quite surprised with how quickly things moved along. Got the ticket in mid December, filed for trial date, received the notice of trial in March, trial date beginning of May. No chance for 11b!

Has the downtown location somehow got their act together or was this just an anomaly?!

Lucky! Is there any chance I could send a friend over with my ticket and have him file for a notice of trial on my behalf?

Anything that I need to provide to him so that he can do it? Or just the copy of the ticket?

The downtown court is really grouping all tickets written by the same cop together, so chances of the officer showing up is quite high now. The day of my trial last month, there were only 2 officers, but they wrote all the tickets that were on the docket that afternoon.

Just ticket and possibly your licence information. All he has to do is fill out a (yellow) form and hand it to the counter. They will give you a yellow slip back, rest will come in the mail.

Edit* Yes ticket, your address, and signature.

For the life of me I can't remember the website (maybe someone on here does), but there is a guy that offers a service where he will line up for you and choose the trial option on your behalf for like $10~$15.

EDIT: Found it, http://parkingtickets.to/ ($20 for traffic tickets).
