i keep having to bump start my bike!

ROFL! We're just so used to heavy batteries. You're never prepared! When I first got it, I whipped out my volt meter just to check if it was a real battery! I thought for SURE they forgot to put the guts in mine.

You gonna charge her up before you put her in?

I don't think so - the instructions said it should be 90% charged, the box says 70%. Either way, it should be more than enough to get the bike going. I'll let it charge that way. The sticker on the box says May, and if everything I've read is accurate it can't be too discharged yet. Impressive packaging - I'm looking forward to customizing my battery box with foam bits.
Here's the irony - I had to push the bike along the gardiner eastbound, uphill to get over park lawn. Now I'm shaving 5 pounds off the weight, but it shouldn't happen again!
I've now picked it up and examined it 3 times. Held it for a total of about 7 or 8 minutes. Nobody else in the house seems to find it as fascinating. Tomorrow when I put them side by side they might, but I doubt it.

Nice. Yeah, maybe side my side they appreciate it a little more.

A battery tender will only charge it 70 to 80 percent anyway.

Your thinking sounds good. Remember, if it's a little low and doesn't start the bike first try, just hold down the starter and let it struggle for a good 10 seconds or so. Let it rest for 10 seconds then she'll fire right up. Totally opposite to how a normal battery would work ;)

Does that trick work at -10c and lower? Was looking at one of these for the vfr.

Yep, that trick works great in cold temps. The colder it is, the longer you'll have to strain it to warm it up.

Make sure you read up on charging these batteries. The one I had said not to use a trickle charger/battery tender.

[h=2]Q. Can I use Lead-Acid battery chargers or charger/tenders?[/h] A.Yes. HOWEVER, you may NOT use a charger/tender if it has an automatic "desulfation mode".

Battery tender Jr., Battery Tender Plus, all good to go with the Shorai.

:(

I have an Optimate 3+ and Ctek 3300...both have that feature. Guess I will just get a gel battery when mine craps out.

Bummer. Don't buy a gel battery, pick up a cheap piece of crap charger for the Shorai. You'll never ever need to charge it anyway.
