I just got in an accident

What would happen if there was video evidence of this with the plate?

Id have to say it all depends, but again I think you would have to prove who was actually driving the car at the time...I don't know how Taxi's work, do they have their own insurance or do they run on the policy of the Taxi company?

I drive a company car, anyone that works at my company is covered by our insurance policy....So if I hit someone and bounced, even if they had my plate, how could they prove who was driving. Would they get covered either way?

Your own insurance company stills pays to fix your bike (DCPD) and for any medical costs to you. Details of the collision and the other driver only impact the fault assessment recorded against you (for future rates) and the related deductible amount that applies.

Evidence may also assist the police in charging the other driver with an offence, but as noted above it may be hard to identify the driver if they did not stop. It may not be a priority for the police to follow up on such charges unless inuries were especially grevious...

Glad you're ok. That's all that matters. Bikes can be fixed.

My rules for riding in downtown Toronto.
- If a vehicle is inside or outside of you, never be in their blind spot for a second longer than necessary
- Never ride beside a taxi. They will change lanes and pull U turns because they can get a fare and they rarely look. If they want to get into the same lane as you, they will always speed up, even if the road behind you is clear. Get in front or stay well behind them.
- When selecting a motorcycle to buy and you will be doing a lot of city driving a very loud horn should be a priority.
- Ride paranoid. They really are out to get you.

And always ride downtown with a ball-peen hammer in a holster. Bust the taxi's window when he gets too close. Works better than a horn. Honest.

Works well till you get pulled over for something else and a young cop looking to make a name for themselves with the guys on shift, jacks you up on a Concealed weapon charge, or you actually use it and the cabbie calls the cops and you get nailed with assualt with a weapon as well as weapons dangerous charges. I think I will just stay away from said cabs..lol

Maybe try to avoid assault and weapon charges....? Lol.

The other annoying part, on top of usually being screwed if you don't actually collide, is even if you get the plate number, taxi plate number, etc, the city won't do anything unless you can prove who was driving the cab at the time. Or at least that's what I was told when I tried to report the crappy driving of one. There is an email address you can complain to. I think it was taxi@toronto.ca or taxiline@toronto.ca or something like that.

They definitely followed up. Asked me for a phone number and called me but without getting the name of the driver they can't do anything. I would presume the taxi company should have records of that but I guess not.

How did you lowside from grabbing the front brakes?

Too much front brake can have you on the ground faster than you can even figure out. I was once riding behind a lunch truck in an industrial area. Bit too close. Bit too fast. It was raining. Guy suddenly slams his brakes and flicks on a signal to pull into a factory parking lot. I think, "Don't grab too much brake!" but in less time than I can even process (I don't even remember falling), I'm sliding on my *** toward his bumper while my bike slides past his truck beside us. Ended up stopping myself on his bumper with my foot hard enough that I left a dent. I still see that truck now and then.

Minor damage to the bike (mostly because it was already damaged from a previous crash). My 2 pc had some scratches on the butt. Frogg Toggs pants were shredded but I believe the jacket was fine. Lost a toenail later that day from apparently bashing my toe somehow (despite my $400+ SIDI boots). The coffee I had just picked up at Tims was ruined (I had installed a cup holder on the rear peg for this as we didn't have any access to coffee at work at the time). Guys from the factory helped me pick up my bike. Picked up my busted off mirror and threw it in my backpack, bent the shifter back so I could shift, and rode to work like nothing happened. Guys from the factory kept telling me to call the cops on the guy (I guess they don't like the guy that brings them snacks and coffee every day) but since it was mostly my own fault for following too close, especially in the rain, I never did and he didn't seem too bothered about the dent in his bumper from my foot.

It's not guaranteed, though. I've had maybe two other times I locked the front in 6 years and didn't wipe out but it was also dry those two times.

At fault accident, dont claim it, winter is here now just take it as a lesson learned and fix the bike yourself over the winter. I made one claim for an at fault accident many years ago when I crashed my bike, insurance was so easy paid for everything and cut me a check for my bike and my gear fast, even asked if I wanted to start a claim for my injuries (road rash). Sounds great right! Yeah until I got my insurance renewal and it was $8000 a year...LOL

Don't do it! If I could go back I would have never made a claim

Yup... I'm coming up on my 6th year since my accident in Jan 2010. Insurance rates are crazy and it just so happened that most insurance companies are looking at at-fault claims made in the last 10 years now =/....

If it costs you less than $10k in damages all-in (depending on what you're paying overall in premiums), don't even bother claiming, you'll be paying for it for the next 10 years.

I'd also highly recommend getting checked out by a doctor though. Pain from injuries tend to set in a while later if not immediately.

Damn f*ucking cabs, I bet he saw you and went on his stupid merry way not giving two sh¡ts about what he just did.

They're always the same, a goddamn cancer, in every city there's cabs.

Around mid August, I was going south on University Av, left lane, right tire track, at a stop light. This motherf*cker cab behind me, starts pulling right next to me in my own lane, I looked at him and then he gives me the finger and says I'm way outside the lane and has the right to use the space...

What a f*ucking moron, I punched his right mirror and broke it, lane splitted and gave him the finger right back at him.

1) It's not a concealed weapon, it's a hammer out in the open. No secrets.

2) It's not an "assault with a weapon". At worst, it would be vandalism, at best self-defence.

3) Here's how it's done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I6Vm1m4Bxc

Question for the OP: Looking back, what would you have done differently to avoid this incident? As motorcyclists we need to learn from such unfortunate occurances.

Also like others have said; don't make a claim. Just eat the cost of repairs. Better to pay once than for 6 - 10 years.

Yet they got the nerves to strike and protest Uber claiming....that service does not provide "professional" and "properly trained" drivers.

Someone they got supports from idiots around the city.

Every single cab drivers i met got their driving skills from India and Parkistan. What a joke
