Hey Folks... I was wondering if anyone knew someone that I can talk to that can show up at my place and help diagnose or fix a problem I have with my brakes. I've recently restored a 1982 CB900F and part of that was replacing the brake lines with steel ones, take apart calipers and put back together and brand new pads. My fronts appear to be OK but after a very short ride my back caliper started smoking and I was close enough to home to just get back slowly. I'm not sure what the problem is but I don't trust myself enough to think I am an expert on how to repair brakes, I simply dont know what to look for. I do usual maintenance with my other motorcycle but in general i've never actually done brake work before myself.

I was hoping someone with experience could help me out in the Richmond Hill area, I have a brake caliper rebuild kit if necessary and I would be willing to compensate... This is the only thing I need fixed before I can get my bike safetied.

Thanks fellas

Sounds like the pads are dragging. As they drag and heat up it gets worse. Caliper sticking open, to much fluid in rear master, plus other possible problems.

sounds like what GVH said, dragging the pads or caliper stuck open.
when you rebuilt the caliper what it a threaded piston ? if so make sure the thread is VERY clean.
also check that it's not a problem with your rear brake lever (might be pressed down and activating the brake even though you don't know it).

had the same problem, it wasnt as bad no smoking but sticking calipers none the less, tried the easy fix first before the caliper rebuild, I went to crappy tire got some brake cleaner and caliper lube, took caliper off disk removed pads pull brake lever to expose more of the caliper pistons careful to not over do it, piston could pop right out like happened to me causing me to bleed brakes, clean up around exposed pistons with brake cleaner then applied lube and it has been over a year and no problems yet,Hope this helps good luck
