I know quite a few cyclists that can ride 30-70km/h. I've always wondered if they do it while drunk and in a 40 zone, is it speeding and impaired riding? <_<

I used to love tearing down Weston road past cars as a kid/teen on my bike. Luckily I never faced the dreaded car door opening..

I am a cyclist as well. And yes believe it or not but the rules of the road apply to us too. Pisses me off to see cyclist run reds etc. Though I am a bit of a hypocrite for some rules.

We are considered vehicles so we are not allowed on the side walks (wheel size dependant. Kids size bikes are allowed) And so the lights, the speeds and yes even alcohol. You can be charged with drunk driving on a bike.

You know, I used to get ****** when I saw cyclists go through red lights and what not. However I now reserve that anger for the police as countless times Ive seen cops just watch it happen and do nothing. However if I did that on my Honda you know I'd get a ticket without thinking. So I figure why blame the cyclists. You would probably do it to if you knew you could get away with it 90% of the time.

Agreed but I dont think we should get away with it. But I dont care what the cops will or will not ticket. If I blow through a stop sign or light, its not cus I can or can not get away with it. But rather because I am peddling up this hill and now this light expects me to stop mid hill and pick back up again? HELL no.
Thats more my reasoning.

Hey I'm not out to demand people do everything the way I would but I do subscribe to the fact we have rules of the road and they apply to everyone using it. If your biking uphill and have to stop then personally I think you should stop regardless of how hard it is to get going again. Your on a bike and it was your choice to ride that bike uphill. I'm not ranting or demanding, its just my opinion.

Not a real ebike fan, but I suppose it has to do more with the bone headed riders rather than the ebikes themselves. I don't mind sharing the road with them so long as they follow the same rules I do, I never know what the heck they are going to do so they tend to make me a tad apprehensive. (As did the motorized wheelchair booking west on King at Yonge)

Just saying.

Well, when I'm grinding up a hill at 11km/h and there's a 4-way stop with no other vehicles in sight, I can guarantee you I'm rolling that stop sign.. I think the intent of the 4-way stop is to ensure everyone gets through the intersection without colliding at 60km/h. At 11km/h, I have plenty of time to look all 3 ways and decide if I'm going to get run over or not!! If there is another vehicle remotely in the area, I play by the rules.

In that situation I'd prob would as well

In this situation at a 4 way stop in the country or something WITH NO ONE ELSE AROUND I'd slow down, have a quick look and roll through on the Ninja or even in the Car too.. it's pretty much considered normal, That's not the issue.. refer to my post on page one of this thread where I was at the intersection in my cage turning right... and this idiot almost became a road pizza by crossing my path when he should have been stopping..

Bingo. I ALWAYS cede the right of way. All other rules of the road are optional IMO.

It pisses me off that a light will turn red just as 20 cars are coming from each direction, in some cases when there is absolutely NO cross-traffic. Are we that stupid, really? Well I'm not, so if I'm on my own and I get a stupid red like that I'll check my surroundings and go if it's safe, whether cycling or driving.

If you were clipped by a mirror, and the offending vehicle did not stop, take the plate number down, report it to the cops. If the driver happens to admit to it happening, it is leaving the scene of an accident with injuries ( a bruise is an injury). Problem is, if they say they did not know they hit something they will not likely get the leaving the scene charge.

Unfortunately I never had the presence of mind to take down the number, plus they tend to exceed the 60km/h limit by a substantial margin so they are long gone before I could even get stopped from 30km/h! I decided I'd rather not be Dead-right and sold the e-bike as there would be no way to teach everyone to share the road.

I also researched the HTA and made sure I was doing everything I was expected to. Reflective clothing, helmet, Stick to the side of the road, obey all traffic laws just as if I was in a car.

Were not talking about the phrase that were not allowed to use (common sense) are we?

We were all taught to use our five senses in school, and "common" is not one of them.

I think you made it up.

How does someone teach you to smell? Or taste for that matter? Im sure glad I didn't go to your school the day they were teaching touch!

...upon further reflection, the common sense thing is to unquestioningly obey all traffic lights. I'd prefer if people questioned common sense.

Try a wine tasting course.

Doctors (Particularly vets ) learn about touching

Smell can be tricky. The acid that gives vomit its smell is also present in some cheeses. Some people relate the smell to cheese and others to vomit.

I won't eat cheese soup.

Guys I'm not even kidding, I got bored and started listening in on the TPS Scanner.

At 5:19 they got a call from TTC about an e-biker in a yellow anime costume cutting off cars and following too closely. Driver is suspected to be under the influence.

I laughed so hard.
