I had a good experience with cops today

For the first time in my life I actually felt good after an interaction with the cops.

Although they pulled me over for no real reason.

So, I look in my rearview and see a cop running towards me while at a red light?

He gets beside me and asks me to shut the bike off and remove my key, then asks for the key?

He said most guys just split on them?

I asked what I did wrong and they say some stalling fluff stuff and ask for my papers etc.

I'm thinking "crap not a ticket" as I was pretty sure I did not do anything.

Anyway, one guy was checking out my stuff and calling my insurance co. to verify it.

The other dude starts talking bikes, he actually owns the exact bike I have but it's been parked for 2 years and he is itching to ride

They were super polite and thanked me for being cooperative

After my stuff checks out they tell me to keep it pinned when they are not around and have a nice day!

Weird?

When I first got my Daytona I had a cop pull me over for no reason, very polite, etc. etc. I think they just take plate/insurance details and keep a catalogue of what bikes they see where cause as he mentioned, some guys have a tendency to WOT when they see red/blue lights.

Probably they were looking for some dude with a bike like yours? That's just a random guess though.

So you are thankful for being stopped for no reason?

Suspicion of a stolen motorbike is enough to get pulled over. You're lucky they even said anything to you at all.

Just to check your licence and insurance is valid is enough of a reason to pull you over

How can there be "suspicion" when they can run the plates to see they are not reported stolen?
I am fairly certain that they do not pull over bikes then try to figure out if they are stolen.

They can see all of that info when they run your plates now.

No I think what he's saying is he's thankful they weren't ******** about it.

They have a job to do and how they do that job defines how we view them in the same vein how we we treat them can define how they do their job it's a weird balance.

People may think being stopped "for no reason" is a ****** thing and yeah it can be, but take a second to think. What if they stopped him because his bike looks exactly like one that was reported stolen in the area and what if that stolen bike used to belong to you?

Wouldn't you want cops to stop people "for no reason" then?

I know I would because I'd want my damn bike back.

This stolen bike theory is flawed.
License plate

License plate

License plate will tell you make, year, model, color and vin, only 3 or 4 of those are plainly visible depending on your knowledge of bikes.

So if my red Kawi 250 bursts into flames for some reason, it's entirely possible for me to just steal someone else's red Kawi 250 and shove my plate on it. It would be incredibly stupid of me to do so since the vins don't match but cops won't see that unless they stop the bike to take a closer look.

But that's just one theory anyway.

Could be someone complained about a bike in the area acting dangerously so they are paying special attention to motorcycles and letting bikers know they are keeping watch.

Could be any other number of reasons.

The point is, both sides treated each other like human beings, no ticket was issued and everyone went on their merry way so despite the mild annoyance that could be caused by being stopped, it could have been worse.

He could have been this guy http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...ehind-multiple-stops-police-article-1.1368529

That's weird, why would they call your insurance co?
Did you give them a reason to think you didn't have valid insurance?

He said most guys split on them. They probably don't feel as giddy as you do. I'm glad this cop experience was good for you.

I don't know why that's so difficult to understand. If you are I. The road, the have the right to randomly check anyones papers at any time for "no reason".

Have you ever had a cop check your vin ?
License checks
Insurance looks legit
Yup it's a red KAwi
I,ve never had a cop go any further

My buddy got pulled over on the weekend on his R1 going towards Paris. Didn't even noticed but cop nabbed him doing 53 over (Otherwise he wouldn't have stopped).
When cop came up to him he said that he was the first sports bike to not run from him in 3 days lmao. Anyways, checked his papers and let him go without a ticket. Also told him that they weren't aloud to chase bikes and have to back off right away.

OP kinda weird that he asked you to hand him over the key.....

OP said the cop was running towards him while he was at a red light - he didn't mention where their car was. Maybe that's why they couldn't check the LP on the fly and needed to keep him there while they did it.
I would offer to step off the bike and up on to the sidewalk rather than hand over my key.

They would prefer you sit on the bike. Less chance of you attacking them, puts them in a tactical advantage.
