I finally dropped my bike!

It's always a matter of time... I was wheeling the bike out of the shed to store some tires of my Volvo 240. So the bike is coming out of the shed, I get punched at the door and I feel the bike slipping from my control. I lay it down as gently as possible, luckily the tire pile helped break the fall! But I snapped the right mirror.

Bike is a 2004 yahama fz6. Purchased brand new by a friend of mine at the age of 16. He owned it until he sold it to me a few years ago. When he wants it back, I plan on giving it back to him.

Any adhesives that I should try first before buying a new mirror? There are a pair of mirrors from a newer model fz6, but the part numbers don't match. Does anyone know if the bolts are the same distance apart? If so, I may just buy the used mirrors and slap them on the bike. Gotta check the Kijiji ad, but I think they are from a 2012 fz6.

That sucks :| if it makes you feel any better I crashed twice today
... no wait make that 3 times.
and I hip checked an oak tree, that hurt.
 
I read it fast as:
I was "wheelieing" the bike out of the shed
and was like what ? then read again, oh, right, yeah, everyone drops their bike (I'm on bike #4, dropped them all).
 
I have a feeling the newer mirrors won't work as the fairing design changed in 2007.

You can always try JB Weld, worth a shot.
 
I wouldn't try too hard to fix that. Small contact area with high stress is a bad combination. JB weld or epoxy might hold if the coat everything but you will lose rotation around that pin (and if may fly off when you hit a pothole).

1983 Sedan DL. I love the history of the car, it was used sparingly by the first owner, only drove it to Church on Sundays. He drove his three daughters to their weddings in the car. Earlier this month, my father drove my sister to he wedding in it. It has about 56,000kms on it now.

Ouch! I didn't post for sympathy! I want answers, is there any reliable way to fix the broken stalk? Or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a new mirror for $115.

I've dropped my old Ninja 650r twice. Once on the driveway, once turning to U-Turn on a narrow road. I know I'll continue to drop the bike - I don't really care as long as its not too expensive to fix afterwards!

There's so many varieties of JB Weld, which one do I want to try first? What material is the stalk made out of?

There is a lot of room to work with because the stalk is covered by a rubber boot. I can hide a lot of ugly under there.

So you are saying I'm the best??? WHY THANK YOU!!! I sure felt stupid when I dropped it. lol I'm just glad the mirror was the only thing to snap.
 
I always knew that bike would get dropped or crashed I have been saying it since the day I got it. It was a bad omen and I could feel it

Meh, it happens. Dropped mine a few weeks back in front of a gas pump trying to reach around to put my wallet back in my top box without getting off the bike after fuelling up. When 1000# decides it's going over because you've botched up that whole "Keeping it on its centre of gravity when stopped" thing, it's pretty much going over, like it or not.

Thankfully on a big cruiser it's typically a non event thanks to crash bars - about a 45-50 degree lean, and it stops, the end. I didn't even need to get off to heave it back up, started bike, rode off - forgot about the whole situation and enjoyed the rest of the ride.

In my defense, I'd been riding the R3 for the previous half hour and had become accustomed to redlining the bike in every gear. I switched to the Ninja moments before the footage starts and I felt like I was cruising leisurely - if you watch the vid I'm coming in way hot, which I realize late, but I still manage to scrub off some speed, then I let go of the brake thinking I'm ok, but it quickly becomes very clear that I'm still going too fast. Grab a last-second handful of front brake, make the front tire chirp and down we go.

(Sorry to hijack the thread, but I knew that @mistersouthpaw would bring it up before long. I'm never going to live it down.)

Well, he almost dropped your bike to compensate. It's like no-fault insurance, just fix your own and pretend it never happened.

It's his GF's bike. My FJ600's throttle cable snapped on the way to Kingston so he had to come pick me up with a trailer. Quite the weekend for me. #doublefacepalm

after about 30 of those you will figure it out.

**** happens. You learn from your mistakes and you didn't get hurt in this one. So it's okay. Brake levers and scratches can be repaired.

I'm going to attempt to JB weld the mirror back to the stalk soon. I'll update the thread once it's done.

Lmao cause in the mirror I was watching mine slide. I was like S*** and went to jump off and almost dropped the other one. I was like oh god damn not both today
