I believe the children are our future

When learning about aircraft maintenance, the very first thing they told us, NEVER try to remember the part numbers or specific numbers. you will a. go nuts! and b. not realize that maybe there has been a change and without looking it up you will use the wrong info.

Since then i dont commit mundate things to memory. cell phone numbers? nope. part numbers for parts? nope! but i do retain where to find that information.

I once told that to a lady friend regarding our anniversary and 1st kiss, that didn't end too well

On a serious note, how many here without Googling, can explain why there's a leap year once every 4 years?

I'm pretty sure it's because a year is actually 365.25 days long. But if that's wrong I'll just google it and edit my post lol

Yup, with all of our information backed up on some drive somewhere within access of mere seconds, there is no longer any need for us to retain any information.

It's actually 365.24xxxx. After 4 years, we ALMOST have a full day, so we add a full day. After 100 years, we're 1 day ahead, so the 100th year (1900, 2100), we DON'T have a leap year, but the 0.00xxxx after 400 years becomes a full day again, so on the 400th year (1600, 2000, 2400), we have a leap year.

EngineerJoe, you are always so cerebral. How old are you, just out of curiosity?

Watching the video. I do have a question.. Why do we have 28 days in february? when we have 31 days in both july and august?

And why didn't we have a calendar that was actually the right length so we don't need leap years?

Hook it up Joe.

btw red- Joe is single. (how is that for retaining information)

Early 30's... this is not a dating site... and it goes back to Julius and Augustus adding days to their months at February's expense.... if memory serves me correctly.

Ideally the year would have 13 months of exactly 4 weeks each. That would leave an extra day (or two on leap years) to make 365 or 366. The extra day(s) would simply be the new year holiday. Not Monday, Tue, Wed, or part of any month, just "New Year's Day(s)"

That way each date would fall on the same day of the week, and each month would start on the same day of the week. No more irregularities except for NYs day, when we all get ****-faced anyways.

I nominate the 13th month to follow December and be called "Underwer".

Early 30's, pfft! Your safe, I am a cougar remember ;)

Fixing the calendar is possible but it would mean changing how long a minute is and thus the length of each day. But people are way too dumb to figure that out and it would likely be a huge mess.

Here is one for ya, why is Easter on a different day each year? No googleing allowed.

Didn't know you were a cougar... and I was raised Catholic, so I'll let somebody else answer for once.
