I almost hit a deer today

Earlier today I was riding along the 141 towards Rosseau, when a deer jumped from the bushes and made a dart towards the road right in my path. I honked my horn and 2 meters away from me it decided not to become a kamikaze. Even though I was doing the speed limit, there would have been no way to avoid a collision. Those deer are big and FAST.

I am in search of a clean pair of underpants. And to those who hit a deer or had a close call like mine, I now understand what the fuss is all about. And it's pretty scary.

I've seen what deer can do to a car... would not want to see what they could do to a biker... glad you avoided it!

my friend hit a deer last week.. he broke his wrist..had internal bleeding in the stomach.. he is pretty messed up.. he just got his breathing tube out and is doing a bunch of breathing exercises now...kinda freaks me out now riding at night on country roads..

Weeeeeee... I killed one last year.. broke both its hind legs with my bike...

I miss that skin I lost that day... always wear gear now because of it..

But Im keeping score now, 1, nothing Teflon...

Up to today my only worries were sand and gravel in the turns. Herbivores added to the list.

I almost hit one last year at night. I was approaching the crest of a hill & a car started flashing me like crazy, I slowed right down... low & behold, a dear darted right in front of me! If it weren't for that driver, I may not be here right now. Deer = scary S**T!

going to wasaga beach on friday riding around 80km/hr around 1 PM, I missed a deer for about 2 seconds, it just crossed the road out of no where, I had to get my brakes down and almost stop.... my girl was riding on another bike behind me and she stopped too....dangerous!!!

Yeah I had one wander out in front of me on 2nd Line near Guelph (parallel to Guelph Line) on my way to work last week. Luckily he didn't run out in front but just kinda wandered onto the road giving me plenty of time to slow down.

A few more KM down the road is where I found out the rear wheels of my 944 lock sooner than the fronts when a deer ran out in front of me last year. They're all over the place down there.

lucky

I hit one big deer on hwy 401 (out town), try to avoid (stupid) and hit on side only (lucky), damage is 4000 (insurance cover)

I did a run to sudbury this weekend and this was a concern.

I may spend $10 and get some whistles for the bike. I'm not sure they work, but an ounce of prevention saves a pound of pain.

Yeah..I have heard those whistles don't work..Deer have the same hearing frequency as we do.. its a waste of money in my opinion.

Came within 10' or so, of one crossing in front of me last night, on Stone East, in Guelph. Going about 80 kph. Not far from Mustang Drive In.

When I was around 15, I was riding in the ganny with a buddy doing about 100km/h when a deer jumped right across his front fender (looked that close), I was 15 feet behing him, he just kept going like it didn't happen. I think that would be the next best thing to a 100 year old oak tree.

Could be...but I can afford a $10 mistake, and I'll enjoy telling people they are radar deflector whistles. Then wait and see if anyone posts on the forums about where they can buy them.

The deer in the clip Cha0s00100 posted was at least twice smaller than the one I almost hit, it looks like a baby. But if this one caused so much damage, I can only imagine what would have happened to me.

I was riding down near the beaches/bluffs (Here in Toronto) the other day and came around the corner.. and there were two cars parked.. and unfortunately what looked like a fawn lying on the side of the road in the grass. One of them must have hit it. It was 5pm in the afternoon.

We forget that there is wildlife in the built up area's too.. ie. in the ravines etc.
