I need more conspicuity on the rear of my new bike.Thinking of putting Hyper Lites on it.What is the difference between "modulating" and "flashing"? I'll probably go with the 16 led units on either side of my plate.
 
My understanding is that flashing is simply on-off

Whereas modulating alters the intensity

Which brings up the question.Is it legal? I think there is a recent thread about this.
 
Good question. I think flashing is illegal. Modulating perhaps not. As the lights are never truly off. I believe of the two, modulating is also more attention grabbing.
 
I'm not about to try and bling my dual purpose bike,but with it's tiny 5w tailight i feel really vulnerable after years of my couchrocket.
 
I've had flashing brake lights on my motorcycle for years...even when I took my M2 exit...no issues.
 
Flashing is 100% on (BR) / off pattern.

Modulating is 100% on (BR) to 30% on (DRL)

I'm doubt you'd be challenged if you choose Flashing, but to be compliant in Ontario choose Modulating -- rear DRLs are required on motorcycles.
 
If you don't need extra lights, you can get rear brake light modulators at Kapsco for about $10. Change over the incandescent bulbs to bright set of LEDS + modulators and you'll light up noticeably when you hit the brakes..

I wouldn’t expect them to care, they didn’t even bat an eye when I showed up with my bike with an expired sticker on the plate, only thing they said to was be careful getting home on the expired sticker, your subject to getting a ticket, we don’t care, we are not the police...

I took all the back and side roads home...lol

Still waiting for my Hyper-Lites from the USA.But i put led position lights on my barkbusters today.

My wifes Civic has been in there for years,but is normally parked waaaay over to the right.I park it on the left now because she had a bad fall and is on a walker for a while.It's safer for getting in and out that way.But i do have a lot more room in there without the Wing!
