Hydraulic Clutch - My first time

Just wondering what everyone thinks about them?

I just rode my buddy's KTM 250 SX last night and it was the first time I'd used a hydraulic clutch. I can't believe what I was missing... It was so easy to pull I literally could not believe it.

I could see it taking a minute or two to get used to, but launching the bike felt great.. I just had a bit of trouble slipping it while negotiating tough terrain, was pulling it in too far here and there because it was just so easy.

Not all hydraulic clutches are that easy to pull. I'm finding that it's taking a bit to get used to the feel, it's quite a different feel vs cable.

1. Not all hydraulic clutches are easy.
2. A 250 will have a much lighter clutch than your SV to begin with, regardless of hydraulic/cable.
3. And the 250 SX is a 2-stroke. My experience is that these tend to be lighter anyway compared to an equivalent 4-stroke. Due to engine torque differences maybe?
4. Some argue that a cable clutch offers better feel and feedback.

I hate them, much prefer the feel of a cable clutch....There are very simple ways to make your cable clutch super easy to pull

From my experience, if your cable clutch isn't smooth and easy there's something wrong with it. Probably not lubed or not properly routed.

I've had hydraulic and cable and prefer cable too.

I have 2 bikes in the Garage now. The ZX14 with the Hydraulic and the GSXR750 with the Cable. I do not notice any signficiant difference under normal conditions.

Well hook up the enlightenment!! I have seen you post one time about a year ago about something to hook up to it, forget what it was called.

You can buy EZ pull clutch levers, that move the pivot point giving 35% less pull....Or you can lengthen the arm on the clutch cover that will do the same thing...

I use EZ pull levers, and they are cut down to fit only one finger...So they have to be really easy to pull

I prefer cable. Hydraulic has no feel.

congrat's on the Busa, Mike.

I'm so used to the hydraulic on mine, i can't get used to the cable types (keep stalling from a standstill).

I've had an easy pull clutch book marked incase I ever wanted to make the jump to stunting... MSR EZ pull is an option: http://www.haibikeshop.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1724

or the Righteous Stunt Clutch:

Johnny would probably be the one to talk to on the differences?

The MSR works great but its made of recycled pop cans, basically the design is great but the quality is garbage...

What Rightious did was take the MSR and copy its geometry almost 100% but machine it from billet instead of cast it out of recycled pop cans....So in short both do the exact same thing, one is just billet and is much stronger, higher quality, and better looking...

We all started with the original MSR, then went to the MSR pro Raptor when it was redesigned...And now we all have the RSC.....

Right on, thanks JP!!

And yeah, I will let you know Justin.. might see what the next ride is first, though. All future upgrades to the SV will have to be done by its next owner! :)
