I've been riding 14 years, my Wife has been riding 4 years. I have a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600 and she is riding a 1996 Yamaha Virago 1100 (my former bike). For the most part, riding together is great. We have different riding styles so there has to be some compromise when we're out. I like to speed up some for the corners where she refuses to go more than 10km/h over the posted limit, so when I get done with a twisty section I have to slow down and wait for her to catch up. But to her credit, she doesn't complain about this!

I'm the other half to the RodneyBR that started this thread. For the most part I'm just lurking and reading to glean the most usefull information... and there are times when I've questions but have decided to Google first. It seems like some of the more seasoned members may be a little bored of answering newbie questions, or get a lark outta razzing, rofl. I can just hear the battle cries of "initiate the n00b!!!!!". Damn...It's great to know other who ride together as couples! Can't wait to take the course at Durham College :).Doing some extra exercises to help with strength. I've already encountered the push ur bike around the pavement drills and will be ready for it!

Married and we both have riding license, the wife hasn't had a bike since we moved to Canada from Europe... downtown Toronto is really not the best place for her to get back into it, and we have a 3yo daughter now.

You got that right! Toronto isn't a fit place to ride even for a seasoned rider :/

How would you know? You just started riding. Plenty of us have ridden in the city for years and years without problems and without needing to resort to gimmicks to stay safe.

Be alert, be aware of your surroundings, and learn to read what other drivers are gonna do before it happens.

You'd be surprised at how well the "search" function works. It really works. I swear.

Instructors, friends and other folks who ride in Toronto tell me it plain outright sucks. I lived in Toronto from 1992-2005, so I do know what it's like driving (not motorcycle) their bud. Maybe I'm wrong but many drivers in Toronto seem distracted, in a rush, cut you off, tailgate and not to mention navaigating pedestrians, street car tracks, buses...

BTW: I guess it's pick on the new guy eh mmmnaked? Maybe you can't really help yourself. You're the type I normally ignore in forums, nothing personal ;)

I wouldn't say it's not "fit", but there are definitely more factors to mitigate when riding in the city (especially if you're talking about downtown). In the end it's really up to the individual rider to decide whether the environmental risks outweigh the enjoyment factor.

My wife and I both got our M1's together this June then took the Motorcycle safety course at Sheridan (CCIW parkinglot) together, now we are sharing a Yamaha Virago 250. I have more riding experience and she is still quite green. Looking forward to when she has more confidence so that we can get a second bike and ride together.

So, quit hogging the bike and let her have more seat time, man!

Yeah, search works too...:D. Searching and lurking work even better ;). Posting, well, not so much for now. Not not at least until I can remove the proverbial pacifier and nappie as per being "n00b" that seems to go along with the territory, get the M2 under my belt and gain some decent riding experience.

We all had to start somewhere. Some are lucky enough to have a huge backyard and tons of fields to have a dirt bike when they are 6 or 7 years old! No sh33t, they will have more experience and have lots of tales and advice to tell. Heck ya, I'm just happy to be doing it.

My wife and I both ride. Me about 5 years she 3 years... I ride a Hayabusa and she rides a Ninja 500. We both have an amazing time riding together... Would be interested in forming a couples group to get together to ride from time to time. We've gone out as far as Niagara Falls to the west and as far as Cobourg to the East. Just picked up a couple of Route Maps from a booth at the Jan Bike show... Lots of great routes already mapped out... If your interested in riding with us ... Contact through GTAM or at adkhan@trebnet.com

I think she's blessed to have you to ride with. I also don't like to ride more than 10 over and certainly wouldn't complain about someone waiting for me. In fact, I think that's sweet :)

I had an ex like that. Hated riding with her, much preferred going out alone for that reason. I know a few other guys in the same situation and they always look miserable when they ride with their wives/girlfriends.

Dunno how you do it!

Stubby has a Goldwing 1800.I have the honour of being her chauffeur.:)

My wife just packed it in, she'll 2up as we did for years, but our small town has turned small city and the fun factor was dropping off for her.
she has other interests so it wont be any issue with my riding.

Only in my dream for now, i got her to get M2 2 yrs ago. She's great riding 2 up though. Would like to join a couples ride even if she 2 ups only. I do get to enjoy the bikes the bikes that was supposed to be for her. :)

Sena/ scala helped much in biker couple relationship.

You wouldn't want to be on the road, if my wife rode.

(If she had her full eyesight than that would be a different story).

I've had my license since 1979 and rode all through high school and university. Transferred to Ontario in 1988 and left riding until six years ago when I thought it was time to get back on a bike. My wife had never even been a passenger until I started up again and after two rides she announced that she wanted her own bike. She will be getting her full "M" this summer. After starting out on a Suzuki Marauder 250, she now rides a Suzuki Volusia 800.

I ride considerably more than she does but we do try to get out together at least once a week during the season.
