HSBC purchased by RBC - Anybody here affected?

Looks like things are happening fast. RBC just let us know what to expect on the transition and it's not looking good.
HSBC Premier was the best mainstream program in Canada - even better than some low tier private banking options with the big banks.
Damn. Anybody here affected and what are your plans?

Somehow I had dodged all news about this until now

I have my auto insurance with RBC. Hope it doesn't get affected.

3:00 AM, my reading skills are FUBAR.
Thanks for pointing that out @Lightcycle

So the Chinese have bought another Canadian company. Guess the real profits will now go off shore. Hope things don't end in the crapper.

HSBC Holdings plc (Chinese: 滙豐), originally The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, and known locally as Hongkongbank in Hong Kong, Canada and Australia during the early 1980s to late 1990s, is a British universal bank and financial services group headquartered in London, England, with business links to East

Unless my reading comprehension is entirely FUBAR, it is RBC that is buying HSBC, not the other way around.

We use RBC investment for our company matched pensions , if this makes them better and more versatile, Oky doky .

Add to sell offs Life Labs is apparently up for sale and the contenders are American.
Maybe 3G Capital should take a look and consider synergies with the 3500 Tim Hortons locations

If RBC takes over HSBC pity HSBS clients.

I have a GIC at RBC and it is coming due shortly so I called to set up an appointment to review. Her number is no longer in service. I try their 1-800 number and get their AI (Artificial Ignorance) representative.

I ask to speak to an advisor and am asked to key in my client numbers. I just want to make an appointment. After dodging around for a couple of minutes I am told I can't be helped at this time. In other words F.O.

I called back and said I wanted to open an account, figuring it would get me past Mr. A.I. Nope, after saying I wanted to open a new account I was asked for my account number, ignoring that a person wanting to open an account wouldn't have an account number. I said I didn't have one so I was asked for my credit card number. Again I said I was trying to open an account. We agreed to disconnect again, no swearing, although tempted.

I called back and asked for customer service and finally got through to a human after dodging the account number Q&A's. Basically they will register my complaint. Again I was asked for my account number.

I pointed out that a caller might not be in a private location and spewing out their account number and three digit code in public might not be advised. I gave my bank location and name and Bingo she had all my info at her fingertips.

All to make an appointment. I'm just going to walk over and hopefully get in the door without a cavity search.

I hate to think of the outcome if I noticed illegal activity on an account and I get the run around.

In all honesty if I need to deal with certain things at a bank, I just go and show up. So much easier and less frustrating at times.

TD’s premier chequing accounts (All Inclusive), online and telephone banking are better than HSBC. You also get the benefit of a lot of retail outlets and ATMs across the country.

RBC is probably an even trade off, unless you rely on telephone banking -- RBC hurts.
