how to spec a fuel filter

plastic mesh - I prefer the peace of mind of a real filter.

Goldwings go hundreds of thousands of kms with just a mesh screen. Just sayin.

They must have made a change sometime after 01. My 01 1800 had just a screen. Gotta look into this. Curious.

Typically, with FI, there is a filter upstream from the pump.
That way a clogged filter won't restrict pressure. It will restrict flow, but not pressure.

Plenty of auto parts store will sell generic METAL fuel filters.
Space below motorcycle tanks are limited. The last thing you want is for the plastic to metal and burn the bike down.

If I am servicing a carb bike. I always make a case to run a in-line filter.

My gold wing had its original m 1975 factory filter. I changed it out with a generic fram 1/4” universal fit, mostly because I want to preserve the OE filter should I ever show the bike.

A klr can use a fram g12. Cost about $5. If you use regular Canadian pump gas, it will last till you need an engine overhaul.
