How to Order and Pick-Up Motorcycle Gear from the US

I can vouch for CBI. I've been using them for years for everything from televisions, appliances and (now) motorcycle gear. It's a super awesome service. Be aware that for "oversize" items they charge an extra $5 per item. Not a big deal for a jacket and gloves but if you order some stands or wheels just be prepared for the extra fees.

They also have box openers and recycling on site so you can open, inspect your goods and dispose of any shipping materials (hint hint). They also do outbound shipping in case you need to do any returns. Saves you a trip to USPS or another courier shop.

I've gotten my car springs shipped to them, great experience and way to get free shipping :p.

Plussss, now that we have that thread with a more 'scenic route' to niagara, it will make it that much more fun ;p

I just ask retailers if they are willing to to ship by USPS (non priority), mark the value less than $80, as a warranty replacement, or invoice less and marked as a gift. If they are not willing I ask someone else to price match the first retailer and begin the process again. My time, the gas, and the extra km's on my truck is too valuable to be spent driving 2+ hours plus to save a few dollars.

Quick tip if you have pets....get vet stuff done while you're in the US, the price is less than half of what it costs in Ontario and that includes medications, spay/neuter, teeth extraction/cleaning etc. Combine a few things and it's way more than saving just a few dollars.

are you able to take a dog/cat over the border just like that? Do they need paperwork? (Serious question)

I hear dentists in the States are cheaper too. Might as well get your teeth cleaned while you're there.

I hear it's acceptable to throw $1 bills at strippers in the states rather than $5 bills as I do in Canada (I would throw two dollars coins but I've been warned not to anymore); While I'm down there I could stand in front of the stage all night long.

I live in the Stratford area and have my parcels delivered to Port Huron (Sarnia). I have used SCC Parcel Pickup (2540 Lapeer Rd in Port Huron, MI) several times. They too charge you $5 per parcel and will keep for two months before adding another $5. I ride a BMW and most non-BMW accessory parts can only be obtained in the US so I am not cheating our Canadian Dealers.

For those of you West of the GTA (Woodstock, London, etc.), I use Blue Water Shipping in Port Huron. They're $5 a package, and they generally don't care if it sits there for a couple months before you pick it up (with the exception of LARGE items due to space. When I was in last time, someone had a motorcycle shipped to them for pick-up.)

You can also save additional money if you need to mail something to the USA. My wife had a package that was going to cost her $120 to ship to Utah via 5 day service, and it only cost her $40 for 2 day service via USPS from Port Huron.

Also, if you take a car over and fuel up while you're there, the trip is pretty much free due to the savings on gas.

Rabies certificates and while some here are taking the piss, a teeth cleaning for a pet quoted at $800 in Ottawa cost the owner $170 in the US. Perhaps some people don't need to save that much though. Thats an extreme example but big savings are common.
