How to handle speeding ticket 20 over

Was the ticket reduced by having the big "R" on it? How would prosecutor know it was reduced.?

Could OP still take it to court and see if cop shows up?
When the prosecutor gets the cops notes for putting together the disclosure the cops notes will say "got car on radar at 121 in a 70kph zone" so that's how they know.

Yep, he could still take it to court and hope the cop doesn't show. If he DOES show, run to the payment window and pay the original ticket. Works in Whitby, YMMV elsewhere.

He wont have his bike towed after court, the officer can only do it at the scene or in the case of a pursuit etc after you catch him.

the stunt driving charge can be charged 6 months after the fact so yes the officer could re-lay the charge, unlikely but possible, Unlikely the court would as its a different type of court for stunt driving, the same one that accident tickets, suspended drivers etc go to.

The vehicle will still be impounded once the stunting charge is laid, even if the charge is laid a month, two months, etc... after the incident. Most often that happens roadside, however.

The stunt driving charge can be laid for up to six months after the offense, but in this case he has already been charged for speeding for that incident. Barring some form of new evidence (and I can't really think of what that would be), that's as far as it will go.

Correct. Insurance is going to be a ***** :(

I think that will confuse him all the same. Lemme see

1) OP got a ticket for speeding
2) OP was doing 121kph in a 70kph zone
3) That was 51kph over (loose your bike city)
4) Cop was having a good day and reduced the the ticket from 51 over to 20 over.
5) OP is thinking of fighting it
6) OP is advised to pay the ticket and NOT fight it.

Thinking about it there should be notes like this after 3 or 4 pages on all threads.

Do i meet with a prosecutor to try and drop to 10 over?
10 over is no different than 20 over as far as your insurance company cares. Are you just trying to get the fine lower?

-Jamie M.

The fine is 95 bucks. I was hoping to reduce the demerit points.

Why? Are you running out of points? How many demerit points do you have currently?

-Jamie M.

There would be a sticky on demerit points or something.... The last three threads I read we're about people worrying about demerit points effecting their insurance rates...

Then don't worry about the demerit points, they mean nothing.

They mean nothing to insurance companies, they only care about convictions. But if you get up to 6 or 7 points, you'll get a warning from the MTO that your license will be up for review regarding suspension if you get any more.

As far as insurance companies are concerned tickets are bad, but suspensions are worse.

Pretty sure even 15 over and 20 over have a big difference in between.
20 over is 3 points
15 over no points

:-/

Insurance doesn't care about points, or what the number is. They only care that it's a ticket; and whether it's a Major or Minor. Note: most companies also have a threshold for a minor speeding ticket; and classify anything over a certain km/hr as a major ticket (usually around the high 40's)

Ah I see what you mean. I just looked at it from different perspective.

That's what I constantly try and get through peoples heads. They cut a deal with the prosecutor to get their 20 over ticket cut down to 15 over and they think "they've won" :(

And as an interesting note, I just saw a notice from an insurance company that they were lowering the "major" ticket offence from 45km/h down to 30km/h! YIKES!

Will post more info once I get in confirmed.
