No particular reason why I'm posting this aside from alot of G20/Police related things going on in my FB, which reminded me of this video. I was going to post this in the law section, but I think more people would view it here. I also think it's important people watch it.

Sorry if I'm reposting.
*Add: I know this has to do with American laws, but there are alot of similarities between theirs and ours, and this wouldn't hurt to apply to your circumstances.

yup, think about it the other way around. If I was a cop and somebody was being a dik, I'd give him every ticket I could
 
If you're going to behave in that way.
Make real sure that you know your rights inside and out, you know their rights inside and out, you've caught the officer on a good day, you're ok with escalating the situation, and you have a reason to do so.
Trying to make the police meaner to everyone, or push an agenda isn't a good reason in my book.
I've seen someone talk themselves out of a similar situation, and this was not the way.
 
Yes, the "bend over and pray for the best" method is popular, but should it fail, it doesn't hurt to know your rights.

Rattling off your rights to the cop isn't going to help the situation, it's best to be polite, not say much, only what you need to.
Keep your rights in mind for when you're speaking to a lawyer after the fact.

Otherwise, the only things that'll help you are... being an off duty cop, work for some other government agency, or be an attractive woman.
 
Is this a real vid or a joke vid? It's 45 mins long and im not going to watch the whole thing, just want to know if there is a specific part to check.
 
It was a decent vid, but I'm not sure how much of it applies to us in Ontario. For example, I don't know if we have anything similar to the 5th amendment. But I really have no idea.
 
Generally, be polite, offer no information, respond to questions and don't incriminate yourself.

You also really don't want to piss someone off that can easily stuff you into their car and do what they want to you with no repercussions to them. And I'm not necessarily talking about what they can legally do.

Reminds me of a friend who got into a tussle with a guy in a bar who kept telling my friend "you can't hit me" as my friend punched him in the head several times. I think what he meant to say was "it's illegal for you to hit me". :p
 
Just watched the video. I appears to have been made for people that are breaking laws. Personally I know being honest and polite can get you out of tickets.
 
"oops that's my military ID/ Geneva convention card (depending on what I grab) not my drivers license... Sorry officer"That seems to work great lol. Just be respectfull and they will do the same. You may feel violated but they are doing their jobs and deal with dick heads all the time. Note, sometimes they really can be huge ****** bags but usually they are just doing their job in the authoritative position that they are.

my brother used to work for canada border services and did the same thing to get out of tickets.

If you were to join as a reserve, do you get a photo ID? :p

Yeah you do, but you only get a temporary ID at first, reg force/reserve that looks like you printed it yourself lol.
 
Best thing to do is play the "no speak English" card lol ... Some good tip in the video though, but very bad actors.
 
The way I see it is that you, as everyone's said, be polite and personable to the person. Don't be a dick. And really, don't argue in an annoying know-it-all fashion.

they're there to issue the tickets. The court is where you argue. If you piss of the person you're getting the ticket from, there could be a higher degree of scrutiny for other offenses.

just be nice and friendly. best medecine.

Valid responses to questions include "I don't know", "I would prefer not to answer questions / that question", etc.

A valid response to "Do you mind if we search your vehicle" is "Are you compelling me to have my vehicle searched".

Just keep in mind that if you know there is nothing to be found, a response like that may make them suspicious and they may find some other reason to search your vehicle.

"Am I being detained, or am I free to go" is another one that might find strategic use.

You are allowed to ask what your rights are, and they are required to answer correctly.

If things get really dicey and you are detained for questioning, one approach is to say absolutely nothing and remain absolutely stone-faced except for things which you are legally required to answer ... and that is pretty much to identify yourself, and nothing else. It's not uncommon that the police have no solid evidence in a case but use questioning to get you to incriminate yourself ... so don't incriminate yourself. If they have no evidence ... they cannot make an arrest ... they cannot continue to detain you.
