How safe is your pair of gloves? Pics.

That's through a glove. Picture what wouldn't be left if I wasn't wearing them

Your hand is now rashed. Now your long & lonely nights is going to be lonelier.

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

Knox scaphoid protectors is where it's at when it comes to hand protection. I track in the top of the line Taichi gloves and have hit the pavement a few times with them, serious scuffs to the plastic protectors but no damage to the actual glove. I dont like the stingray design because it's held in place by a stitched seam and have seen way too many pictures of how the stingray just tears out if the seam hits first.

, but even in shorts and a tee, I still wear gloves.
Same here! The thing is while a skin graft may suck, when it comes to fingers if they're messed up they just amputate. I'm pretty attached to my fingers, i figure i wouldn't ever want to be sitting in the hospital missing digits because i cheaped out on gloves. Actually generally speaking this is a really bad hobby to try to do on the cheap, usually ends badly.

Men, you talk a lot of ****.

1st. Stingray is a material and not a design
2nd Stingray is top quality as demonstrated by TRFB on his crash video and my 3 crashes as well as the other posters
3rd Plastic knuckles are crap

I don't mind if you don't like something but if you are going to put it down and demotivate other riders from getting the protection it offers, at least have a slight clue about what you are talking about.

Please let me know what is wrong with the "stingray design sticking" Like I said 3 high speed crashes

OP - Bottom line, spend the money and don't buy low or even medium quality only high quality

Thanks Mina. Don't think I'd hit up Sauga anytime soon. I do recall seeing Dainese at GP...
They make some nice gloves for ladies as well, my girlfriend has a pair of Dainese's, can't remember the model.
GP Bikes has a decent selection but Rider's Choice has a plethora of Dainese gear. Make a ride out of it and check them out.

I used to swear by these until my lowside. 40kmh.. and gravel went right through the palm protection and lodged into my palm.

For $150+ its a huge hunk of $*it and not worth it.

I have the same ones...yikes

I have these too, as stated they are not cheap :( Gravel lodged in your palm isn't cool. So who makes the most protective gloves, is it Held? Are there any Held retailers in the GTA?

I had previously stated in another thread that these were the most comfortable gloves I had ever worn and swore by them. Someone else in that thread laughed at my false sense of security. Now I know why.

Luckily my had didn't look like Roomie's (p.s GWS).

As I learned.. You don't realize the value of your gear until you hit the ground. Here on out, i'm sticking with tried tested and true.

On a side note, my RS Taichi Jacket held up incredibly well.

There are some. Yamaha of Oakville and Town Moto both have Held gloves but only specific models. YoA responded quickly to email to me so you can ask them if they have stock of anything you are interested in as their webpage doesn't list what they carry.

Pretty hard to beat the palm and finger protection in Velocity's gloves. For $89 Bickle's gloves are great protection as well!

Velocity VR Pro are my next gloves. I am wearing these "Armadillo" gauntlets from Royal Distributing. There is extra leather on the palm but the pics of the OP's hands have me convinced that I need something more substantial.

After the gloves are addressed I will start to look at my next pair of boots. I have cruiser style boots which are super comfy but they would not do much for me in a crash other than a little abrasion resistence.

One thing I'd like to ask about gloves, exactly how tight do you buy them new? I know loose is no good at all, I'm looking for "just right" but sometimes size-downs in shoes or gloves can be painfully tight and take a long time to stretch, and sometimes never really do so depending on where the stitches are. One cheap pair of gloves I have, I'm always sort of tugging one of the fingers to make it longer but it never really stays stretched..

Upgrading my gloves is next on my list after upgrading my jacket -- Currently only have a full textile jacket & pants, but want to get either an A* or Dainese full leather jacket (leaning towards A* Celer atm). For gloves, I have full leather gauntlet-style Scorpions, but they weren't overly expensive and I have my doubts how well they'd hold up compared to gloves in/near the $200 range.

There are what I have now -- Scorpion SG full-gauntlets:

With that said, how do Velocity, Dainese, Knox, and Held stack up against each other? I figure whatever I do get will be from one of those brands, but I really have no idea how they compare at their various price points for each model. Also although I do hear good things about Velocity, given they aren't as 'big' I do question how much testing can be done against the likes of the larger brands (which have more money for R&D and CE testing). Also as I don't really want to exceed $250 by that much, I'm guessing the gloves from those brands I would be interested in are the following:

-Velocity VR Pro
-Dainese Pro Metal RS (not full metal)
-Knox Handroid or Biomech
-Held Phantom II

Good question.

Velocity is involved in racing and their suits and gloves are used in competition. Presumably they use rider feedback to improve/update/develop product.

The materials used tick off all the boxes (kevlar, kangaroo hide, stingray). These are products used in other high end products. I just hope the level of stitching and craftsmanship is comparable to Dainese, A*, Held etc.

Have been using Velocity VR-Pro ever since. Have crashed 2 separate pair and both are still holding up well.
Do you treat gloves like helmets, you crash in em once and you just get new ones anyway? Don't wanna risk them ripping open in a second crash?

I wish I had a pic of mine from when I crashed. Alpinestar spx. Shredded right through the palm and they're not the cheapies either. Gloves can only hold up so much. I'd post a pic of my hand but it's gross. Picture meatloaf

I have those exact same gloves! They weren't cheap, guess I'll start looking for a better pair

I would trust Bickle gloves over all the others, the reason why the man is active at local racetracks and has been for years.

$89 for a pair it's a bargain.
