how old is too old?

My cut off is 30 years. After that, unless it is a VERY popular bike, they usually become a parts nightmare.

Example: My previous V45 Sabre

I have always wanted a JDM import bike (late 80s to mid 90s) like the ones NUAK international is selling. The great information provided in this thread gets me thinking maybe I should look into investing into one, maybe one of the MC 22s or VFR/RVFs. Ebay seems to have a lot of parts still available for these types of bikes and I dont mind wrenching on it as long as I can use it as a daily commuter

I bought this a month ago. Changed the fluids, adjusted the shifter linkage and put it on the road. Needed a rear tire and clutch lever.

1984 - older then me

So far this bike is treating me good. I already spent time wrenching on it.

I say + 1 for older bikes. Age aint nothing but a number.

As it has been said quite a few times... it really depends on how mechanically inclined you are. If you know ****all about fixing motorcycles, then you might want to go buy new enough that it still has a warranty. ;) But if you find pleasure in working on bikes, then the older the better.

Chances are, if you even need to ask that question, then you probably shouldn't touch a bike that isn't brand new.
