How much you ride ?

Perhaps where you live, sure. However, I'm about 10 minutes away from some decent roads and 30 mins away from some really decent twisties.

I've put almost 15k on my bike since May but I'm off for the summer, so riding pretty much eats up the first half of my day, everyday.

Agreed it all depends on where you live. It's quite easy to ride for 20min and then spend the rest of the day on twisties.

These threads always turn into dick measuring contests about who rides more. I stopped riding to work now.....I live and work on the subway line and there is no point. On a good season I'll do about 10K in a season but that was when I was riding about 40 km to and from work daily so might be less now. Longer rides is what really racks up the milage. GO to wasaga and back and hit up some good roads on the way and that's 300KM right there. Even just riding to forks and back is like 150 km right there. WIth that said touring in ontario sucks. You have to travel like 100km+ of boring roads just to hit anything even remotely half decent.

Just trying to get a feeling on what others riders do . There's nothing for me to measure yet ... I need at least few years to grow something there first :D

Well I have nothing down there then, and I'm not a real rider. For some reason, I'm very okay with that though since I'm not competing with anyone. I have 250km on the odometer, and I've almost had the bike a month now. I have no commute to ride on since I work across the street from where I live. Most of my free time is currently spent sailing, for which I carry too much gear to ride, and I have an M2 so won't take the bike to go out on the town for drinks. So basically I can't use the bike for anything practical, only for joyriding, and with two jobs plus sailing, there isn't much time for those. Since I plan on keeping it a very long time, I'm not exactly in a rush either. Too inexperienced to join group rides still or do stretches on the highway to get out of the downtown core for some riding. So, I'll ride it whenever I get around to it :) I have my whole life to learn slowly and carefully, and since my bike is brand new, it has many years to learn with me. When my good riding friend finally gets his new bike, I assume we'll be heading out of town for longer rides at that point, which will be hopefully soon.

During the weekdays I try and do 50-100km local streets and such and of-course weather permitting, as for weekends I do something in the range of 600+km usually rides up north. I average 2500-3000km per month.

Hello everyone,

I am a new rider (this is my first riding season) and I am just curious how much you guys ride ?... let's say by week? ... by month ? I feel like I am not riding too much ... I set myself a minimum of 200 km a week no matter what as I want to get more experience, but my weekly average is 250-300 km . I'd like to do more then that , sometimes I do but not always :(

During my first riding season May to mid-November, I rode 10,000km. Much of it was attributed to nice day trips outside of GTA.

I live on mine... Bought it at 6K km in May. Pushing 19 this morning... Oh and yes it's my first year riding. I ride almost all weather and all the time. I put 120km a day with my long *** commute. And then on the weekends... I ride... I work as a programmer and the bike keeps me off the computer. If I keep at the computer much longer I'm going to turn into one.

OMG who rides 40k in a year?!?! who DRIVES 40k in a year?? That's insane! I put on about 28k the first year of having my car but that was with a girlfriend, driving her around and to work sometimes, etc.

I commute to work everyday and that gives me my fix really, 40 minutes total. Occasional group rides with friends, and I take it whenever I don't have to drive my girlfriend (whom I live with).

Don't worry about the mileage as much as the frequency, I ride 7 days a week 5 for work and 2 for fun. On average I spend a 3 hours a day on the bike, more on the weekends. Just use the bike for everything you need to do and it will just become the habit. If you ride enough you will get your fix in no time. All it is a lifestyle adjustment, then you will know when you are craving the ride and when you just had enough.

+1 It is easier to jump in the car to go to the grocery store for a couple of things but do it instead on your bike. I am a new rider and I found this is the best way to get time on the bike. As MadPoet it is a lifestyle way of thinking change.

Today I rode 1 hour each way on my new ride, for some reason it kept stopping at every corner and it milked me 3.50 each way...

I used to worry about how much i rode when I started riding... now, in season 4 for me, i worry about it a lot less.

That being said, I commute whenever possible (i.e. not below 12C, or raining in the morning), and only occasionally on weekends - (maybe 1 3-4hr ride per month).

I wish I had more time and more friends to go on more rides :(
