How many of you take your bike to redline?

I purchased a 1998 zx9r and I have been shifting at the 5k mark. Am I missing something? Whilst I see the point of letting it scream on the track is it appropriate for the street and does it cause undue engine stress? Or am I bring a p***y?

Shift where you want.

Yes bring the p***y, maybe it won't be frightened to wick it up some.

Redline is scary, f that!

I loved making the zx9 backfire in a tunnel. Accelerate hard, hit the kill switch and coast for two seconds, turn the kill switch back on and BANG!

What RPM is redline? I have 9000 rpm between 5k and my redline. My "powerband" apparently doesn't start until around 8k.
What is your style of riding? Are you going to be trying to reach top speed every time you ride?

By law, you have to shift at redline when you're inside a tunnel.

The tunnel under the Welland Canal is awesome for this, its really hard not to giggle exiting it.

You can stretch the powerband beyond redline into the o-zone, something the factories don't advertise. Try it, big fun.

Don't backfire the bike too much. While fun, it actually can cause physical damage to your exhaust.

Don't redline if you want fuel economy.
Do redline if you want to remain in the powerband.
Don't redline if the engine is new and needs to properly be broken in.

my middle name is redline
