How many data bases are you on?

Somewhere buried in Ontario privacy law there is a gem that says your surveillance cam can't record scenes off your property.
There are millions of Google Ring cameras pointing out into public space, monitoring everything, constantly up-loading to Google... and there is more than a few police services that say they should have unfettered access to these streams.

A couple of weeks ago a nice lady from New Jersey got tossed from The Radio City Music Hall, that she was attending with her daughter's Girl Guide troop, because a camera picked her up, and facial recognition software identified her as lawyer employed by a firm that is suing the Radio City Music Hall.
Mixed emotions on that. My policy is "My house, my rules" I don't think our bill of rights says anything about discriminating against lawyers.

Private property with public access places is different from straight private and straight public.

I would resent hosting anyone connected in any way to a party that is making my life miserable.

Reminds me of that Batman movie where Christian Bale taps into everyone's cell phones and turns it into a radar.

Ok. If it was Batman, I'd allow it...

Although I'm far from anonymous on the Internet, I admit, I do have a bit of a tinfoil hat fetish when it comes to the automated Big Data tracking and being populated in cross-referenced databases. I hate being marketed to.

Short of never using the Internet, here are some things you can do to decrease the amount of tracking done:

- Use a VPN. Even if you block cookies on your browser, most web sites use your IP address to figure out who you are. May be useful if you are trying to download pirated stuff on the Internet - but that's wrong, so don't do that...

- Use a web browser that enforces your privacy, not sell you out. Chrome and Edge are Google and Microsoft's thin-edge-of-wedge to getting data on your surfing habits, especially if you have a msn, hotmail or gmail account. Google got sued recently when it was discovered that they still track your browsing habits even in Private mode. I've just started using Brave web browser which is more privacy-centric, and a bonus is that they have the TOR browser embedded into it for accessing the Dark Web.

- Don't use the Google or Bing search engines, especially if you logged into your msn, hotmail or gmail account. All these "free services" they offer like maps just feed Big Data into where you live and where you're going. I'm using DuckDuckGo, which has a mandate not to track your searches.

- Never sign up for new sites using your Microsoft or Google ID. Just use a disposable email address and try not to be cross-referenced in any databases.

The subject came up in some of my other reading and apparently there is a Data Protection Act in the USA and it sounds like the companies can be forced to erase your file.

It seems our Data Protection Act is an entirely different animal but I haven't taken the time to research it yet.
