How long do gloves last?

My first pair was a* smx1 and that didn't last at all, what a waste of money. Bought 3 pairs from Jimmy(shortie, gauntlet and heated gloves) in 2014. I just had issues with some rip on the index and middle finger on one of the shortie glove.

Not long if you got them at Doc's Leathers. Split first ride.

I’ve had my nothing special $40 Dakota/3m leather gloves from marks work warehouse almost 2 years, still going good

I've always heard good things about Held, but most of the ones I've tried on seemed to be made with thicker leather, and felt stiff. I'm guessing they break in well eventually?
My trackday gloves are a pair of Held Titan Evo's, and they felt super stiff when new. One trackday and they now fit like, um, a glove. Perfect.

(Incidentally, if anyone is looking for amazing sport gloves, the Titan Evo's are 30% off at FC-MOTO right now for $269 CAD plus shipping. That's a heck of a deal for what they are.)

My street Held gloves took a few rides to fully break in, but are great now. I'll take thick, safe and durable but take time to break in over instantly comfy but worn out in a couple years.

True, better than gloveless though, and I wear jeans when warmer temps like today!
I think hands are more vulnerable in a crash than legs. I wear kevlar jeans usually. But I won't even buy gloves without palm sliders.

Look at this picture, this guy probably thought his gloves were good leather and would keep him safe.

For me, gloves are the second most important piece of kit after my helmet. They are often the first point of contact with the ground. There's a study somewhere that echoed that and then put boots above a jacket with pants last, if I remember right (not that pants aren't important, but something has to be least important). They said boots were the most commonly ignored with the most preventable injuries as a consequence.

It's why CE ratings are so important. It's impossible to tell how something performs just by looking at it...

Ouch! I should upgrade! How are the Kevlar jeans?? I race road bicycles, used to wearing literally nothing! Soooo dangerous!

Full gauntlet style with the pinky sewn to the ring finger.
Or if you can't afford them, don't worry. They'll grow back.

Those gloves in that pic look thinner and less protective than my cycling gloves, pretty crazy! Bet they probably are cycling gloves lol

Full gauntlets are the best, but I think a high quality pair of shorty gloves with palm sliders is much better than a cheap pair of gauntlets.

They look like they provide the same protection my Mechanix gloves provide....

Kevlar is better than no kevlar. Still not as good as leather.
Full kevlar outfits like the ones from Motoport are are supposed to be better than leather. According to them, when leather gets wet (like from sweat) it loses a lot of strength, whereas kevlar is constant. Plus you can just throw it in the wash instead of hand cleaning. Just wish their styles looked a little less utilitarian.

I have a Kevlar suit from Motoport. Pants always looked like a fart is trapped in them and the jacket makes me look like I’m carrying a spare tire. But I have tested the gear out and it slides quite well. Very easy to clean dries super quick when wet. Amazing on hot days or even cold days with liners, so despite how it looks, it’s my go to suit for long rides or spirited riding.

I can’t compare it to leather though because my leather suit never gets worn and has been sitting in the closet since I bought it.
