how is shooting an Olympic sport?

I doubt that guy can get his breathing under control enough for consistent, accurate shots.

To shoot as perfect as those guys need to, it takes lots of concentration, lots of practice and lots of time. I see how it deserves to be there.
I used to competitively shoot archery and had I continued with it I would have been one of the tops in at least Ontario. There are lots of similarities between archery and rifle shooting.

I was invited to shoot by a Glock team member. I used to think shooting was easy until he told me he use a "Post it Note" at 15 yards to warm up (handgun). I think I only hit it twice in 10shots. I felt humiliated when he used the identical gun to punch holes in it, all in a cluster

I think something like IPSC or IDPA would be more interesting as an Olympic sport

So basically this is a post to tell us you can't shoot, know nothing about the sport and think the gun does all the work.

What else do you know nothing about and suck at?

That's the same idea of the Archery tournaments I used to shoot, except the scenarios were hunting scenarios with foam animal targets... And a bullseye was about the size of a looney, at 40 yards shooting through brush is not easy.
Dealt with uphill or downhill shots or needing to somehow snake the arrow through a small gap in the trees... Much more interesting than a wide open target at the same ranges.

I am a marksman and an archer.

I am sure most of you wouldn't even be able to hit inside a target more than 60 yards away.

Archery takes an incredible amount of muscle memory and consistency to place shots. Aiming with a bow is very difficult over long ranges.

As to the comment about archery... I shoot a bow. pulling back an 80lb tension is exactly like lifting 80lbs. If you don't think you don't feel that after a few shots I suggest you try the sport and report back.

As for guns.. Skill sure. Athletic? No. but saying the.gun.does all the work is no different than saying when riding the bike does all the work. So it's not a sport..

Probably in the same way that motocycle racing is considered a "sport".

What is it "sit down", "shut up", "hang on".

Might not be a "sport" on the pavement (I consider it one since you do need to be in shape, the heart rate is high, reflexes need to be fast and a keen sense of balance) but in the dirt, it is one of the most physically demanding sports you can do. It's been proven in tests, and is why Guelph University did a study on the health benefits of off road riding.

just to clarify I'm not saying if motorcycling is or isn't a sport, or if gun firing is or isn't. just pointing out how hypocritical it is saying hanging onto a bike is a sport but holding a gun isn't.

Booooo... So what am I gonna do with my gun now? Put holes in papers? Get food? Get rid of pest animals in the country? According to The Star, none of these is a proper use of a firearm :(

Look at Korea, starcraft is their national sport :p

Cow Chip Tossing Championship

Money making is the top sport at the olympics for the Rothschilds. Losing money the next biggest for the siphoned funds from the bag holders, tax payers.

China got the closest when it held the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, only going over budget by 4%. But this year is different. The London Olympics are on track to become the most over-budgeted Games when it comes to sports-related costs since ‘96 — and the costliest ever, at $14.8 billion.
