I am so sorry but what kind of shape do you have to be in to shot an air rifle or a pistol for that matter?

is not like they are playing paint ball or like shooting arrows, the gun is doing all the damn work for them!

Do you shoot competitively? It doesn't take all that much "work" but it takes tons of time, practice, patience and skill. The only work the gun is doing is firing. Every other aspect is up to the shooter.

I will say though that the Biathlon at the winter Olympics is MUCH more interesting to watch.

I see your point and raise it 20.. guess you make sense, didn't see it that way...

Remember a long time ago when they used to have that cross-sport tournament on TV, with "athletes" from all different disciplines and the hockey players used to always come in last?

I don't think I was born by then :P .. hehehe no no I don't remember honestly

Better question is why wouldn't it be part of the Olympics. Saying why, is like saying why is archery part of the Olympics. Back to basics and the begining, it's all about who is the best at survival. It is only natural that shooting be a part of that since it has to do with hunting, fighting and survival.

The original "sports" at the Olympics were:

Many Olympic sports require skill and dedication but not athleticism. Do you need to train cardio for archery, equestrian, yachting or even curling? I say if those sports can be in the Olympics then darts, bowling and golf can be included.

Archery seems perfect because the person is controlling everything... just shooting a fire arm seems over kill, yeah you need concentration and aim but there is no real physical exercise of human nature, mostly mental and if its all about mental exercise then they should add a "math" competition.

I just dont totally see it as a sport, if they have to endure some sort of exercise like running or some sort of race then I see how its part of it... thats all im done my rant :(

Have you ever shot a gun before? It really isn't as easy as you think it is to shoot perfect.

No one is denying the skills required to be an Olympic shooter. But are they "athletes"? Do they even break a sweat during their events?

Does an archer? lol

Was going to be a smart butt and put "yea if it's hot out";)

If they call golf a sport, I see why not

Here is a competition that a hockey player did very well in: Shane Doan on Mantracker

I <3 Shane Doan. I wish he weren't a career Coyote. Just imagine how much more success he woulda had.

My old man always said that the only " racing " is done on motorcycles, everything else is just a sport.

Shooting is difficult, but I honestly don't believe it takes that much skill, at least not Olympic worthy. Training for a marathon takes immense amount of body conditioning, mental work and way of life. As for shooting, sadly this guy for instance is Olympic worthy -

I doubt that guy can get his breathing under control enough for consistent, accurate shots.

To shoot as perfect as those guys need to, it takes lots of concentration, lots of practice and lots of time. I see how it deserves to be there.
I used to competitively shoot archery and had I continued with it I would have been one of the tops in at least Ontario. There are lots of similarities between archery and rifle shooting.
