How do you usually bring a second helmet?

I hardly ride with passengers. In the the rare case I do, it usually the starting point is from my home. Where there is no need to bring it with me.
There one time I had to go to a girl house and pick her up, and I put the second helmet in a backpack. Just wondering is there other ways? I seeen ppl strap it on the back of the motor leg or side?
 
I won't ride with a helmet in a backpack I am wearing. In a crash, you could easily get bent around that helmet and it would be very bad for you. I normally put crap in a bag/backpack and tie it onto the pillion seat.
 
You can get a mesh bungee that will be a simple way to secure it to the passenger seat when no passenger is on it. Something like: Heavy-Duty 15 Cargo Net for Motorcycles, ATVs - Stretches to 30 (Black), Luggage - Amazon Canada and it will look something like this:

I used to also just use the helmet strap to secure it to any side rail on the bike for shorter distances.

Now I just throw it in my top case.
 
I have a hiking daypack that has outer straps with buckles. I just loop two of the straps through the chin bar and lock the visor down on them. If I don’t have a backpack I’ll use the helmet’s chin strap to fasten it around the passenger seat strap and throw a mesh cargo net over it to keep it from sliding around.

Some bikes will have a hook under the passenger seat that allows you to lock the lid using the D rings as well. The issue with mounting it on the side is the helmet and fairing / whatever it is near are going to constantly be banging into each other. You are also only relying on a single connection point. Ideally you always want a “backup” / redundancy when securing stuff to your bike.

"In a crash". For the one time you carry an extra helmet in a backpack, what are the chances you crash? Pretty slim.

I used to use a bungee net but now I have a topcase and a helmet can fit inside it.

Agreed, but I still have no interest in smashing my spine when it could have been easily prevented. I assume that every ride will include a crash (and thankfully am wrong 99.999999% of the time). I don't carry keys in hip pockets, I don't carry hard things in backpacks etc. To each their own, I'm not going to judge someone else for making different choices.

No no, I agree with you. All valid points. I never ride with a backpack on, too uncomfortable with a padded jacket. I have a top box to carry extra stuff too.

I thought the same when lending out my action cam for 3 days to a friend. Go figure in the 19k I rode that year I had my left turner accident during those 3 days. ?

I just had this problem few days back hahaha.

If you have an ADV helmet (with a visor), you can put Rok Straps through the visor and tighten it down to the back without a mesh. Worked for me on a half hour rip down the highway to missisauga.

Otherwise, what everyone else said, bungee net seems to be the best way to do it.

? luggage for the win again. I’ve gone to pick up my daughter from grandmas unexpectedly on the bike. I had her helmet, pair of jeans, gloves, motorcycle jacket, and Mx boots.
She geared up while I stuffed over nite bag, and a pillow and 4 dozen eggs for the ride home.
 
I always remove rear pegs and put a solo cowl on my bike...no passengers.

And the thought of going down with a helmet in a backpack or my arm through it makes me cringe...no thanks.

As far as "just in case she wants a ride" goes, at this point in my life if she's worth considering she rides her own.

my sons common law GF is a bad ass competitive boxer - her quote "Im not afraid to spar with the boys"
thats my girl lol.

I haven't rode two up in years, shrug.

Nope not a boxer but she trail rides mountain Bikes in durham forest with me.
As for the boots, I ride an adventure bike so an off-road style boot is not completely out of place looks wise. It’s also about the best protective foot wear you could ask for that’s available In kids sizes. Also should hold value fairly well as they will still be in like new condition when the kids out grow them.
