How do you remove crush washers efficiently?

Every single time it takes longer than the oil change! This time I clamped it, gently hammered a pick in between the crush washer and drain bolt, then slowly snipped at it with some random wire cutters I found. Anyone have any tricks? I'm just gonna buy a new drain bolt every time at this rate.
 
Pliers? I dunno.. The crush washer never got stuck for the past 4 oil changes I did....
 
I've never had one get stuck. Try coating the crush washer with oil before installing, maybe it will help keep it from sticking.
 
Loosen bolt but do not remove. Use hammer & flat scredriver to chisel it out. Cant be that hard

That always happens to me too. I hold it with the vise and chisel it out with a screwdriver and a hammer. I wouldn't do it on the bike though.
 
you should definately replace it when you can. Never had it stick, what bike is it?
 
Hardest part is usually fishing it out of the drain pan ... though on a VF500F I was convinced the crush washer was missing until I looked real hard at the drain bolt. I think I knocked it off with a screwdriver?

You can't install it backwards lol

You guys actually replace it? Guess I've been lucky so far.

My reasoning is if there is a leak and you find out, you have to remove the drain bolt...and the bolt holds the fresh oil you just put in lol

Those GSXR ones always get stuck on the bolt. I use good pliers and grab the washer tightly sideways then use a wrench at the same time to unthread it out

That's the key.. Quality tools give you a better level of control and make the job easier. A couple of tips for the op:

1) As they said coat with oil
2) Torque to spec and not an inch-lb more. Yes, you can use a torque-wrench for an oil change
3) On some bikes you can get away with using a flat washer Cu or Al. Been doing that with the Fizzer for 4 years.
 
Some crush washers are directional so yeah you can install them backwards-lol
 
I have the same issue. I just slowly try to unscrew it using one pair of plyers to hold the drain plug and another to unscrew the washer. Its a slow process but seems to work without damaging the threads on the drain plug.
 
if you find you're doing more frequent changes, maybe install a valve?
