How do I choose a TV?

BTW I don't think

I don't think, either. Lol.

Guy at work selling android boxes for $100. Everyone telling me I'm an idiot for not having one. Are they really that good?

There isn't likely to be any 4K or 8K content anytime soon, so don't get sucked into it.

What, I hear you say? No 4K or 8K content? Why?

Because the content producers don't want you to have the content in those resolutions. It's too close to the original filming quality. Can't have the plebs getting video of that quality, the world could end if they could broadcast, share or invite their friends to view it at cinema-quality.

I kid you not.

Additionally, to stream 4K and 8K takes a lot more bandwidth. Ruinously more, in fact... some of the Internet FIXes are already to the point where there just isn't enough performance to provide full speed streams to millions of people during prime time. Hardly noticable given the amount of bandwidth available, but unless technology manufacturers move several steps forward, it will be in time.

1080P is good enough and MUCH better than 720P.

You really find it that way? I can hardly tell the difference unless the source content is particularly crisp. For example, I can easily tell the difference on a movie like Monsters Inc. but barely at all in a movie like District 9. I can tell the difference between 1080P and 4K but it's more subtle than I expected.

Would the savings on a $500-$600 idiot box offset the price of a Costco membership? I'd like to give the Chinese a chance at my money.

No. But add in toilet paper ($15 /30 rolls), paper towel ($18 /12 rolls) many other household staples (including staples), all non perishable. Then yes. Also, if you pay for your own meds, some of the best prices in town at their pharmacy. Worst case, come see me and we'll go together. Well, hopefully that's not the worst case, but you know what I mean.

Edit: actually, maybe. Costco doubles your manufacturer warranty for free. So an extra year warranty may equal the savings. Then any other purchase is gravy. Including gravy.
And $1.50 hot dog and pepsi deals. Plus free food samples.

Good to see you're back on form. Let's just forget last night, ok?

Okay. Tears are all dried up. They are also not enough.

Since there's almost no 4K media and 8K is already out, might as well skip past 4K. By the time media comes out for 4K, 8K will probably drop to affordable prices.

Bought the 48" Samsung last night. Got it home, stand that attaches to tv is too wide for our tv stand. Returning it tonight for the 40" Samsung. Wife and kid have said that we NEED the smart tv. $499 at Costco. Non smart is only $399. Still a great price imo for either.

$399?! I paid more for my Ipad. Dummy.

Returning for a smaller TV because of the stand? Personally, I would replace the stand or opt for wall mount.
Forget about the Smart TV. I've never seen one that doesn't completely suck although my experience with them is limited. Buy a HDMI stick or set top box instead with the money you save on a "dumb" panel.

Well, tbh, the stand is just the beginning. The tv ends up sticking out in such a way that it could be a safety concern for my youngest son. The room is not that big, the 40 works fine. The wall mount just won't work where the tv is.
I agree about the smart tv. But it's 2 against 1.

Even the sales people told me not to bother with the smart TV as the aftermarket options are infinitely better.

Think I have convinced them that we will hook up old Wii system to new tv. Gives us access to what we would need. Now if I can just get the channel to change from Treehouse....

Yeah, that's ok. I'm not too worried.

If you're older than 40, I can not approve. As a rule, tv size should always be greater than age.

I tend to agree, however, I avoid the "bigger is better" conversation with my wife at all costs! Lol
