How big would you guesstimate this bass is?

Looks like Omemee.

that was my guess too.

Biggest smallie i ever caught was 22.5". Three guys fishing out af a 14' aluminum with a 9.9. Jumped and dove 3 times, then on the fourth jump it landed in the boat. best trophy fish I ever caught. didn't have a scale or tape out with us, so I just notched the oar, the sent it back. Measured back at shore and it was 22.5". Our guess was around 5.5-6lbs. Buddy of mine caught a 19.5" in roughly the same spot a few years later. same deal, no scale no net, but notched the oar. he thought it was the biggest fish ever until we layed it on the oar and it was still 3" shy of my mark. Both were caught on the crowe river. That place used to hold some dandy bass, walleye, pike and the odd musky. past couple years (over 5 years since I've been there) we went up there though the bass size was down, walleye were non existent, and it was nothing but pike in the 3-3.5' range. Musky were very elusive too.

I don't get out much lake fishing anymore. Ice fishing mostly now though, but every now and then I'll throw the rod in the truck, and hit all the little ganaraska feeder creeks and streams for some small specks, and browns on my way home from work. I like that the best. I've pulled some nice fish out of what look to be overflowing ditches out this way. Good riding roads to get to some of my good holes too. Tough to fit a long rod (fly rods work best) on a bike though. Are you using a break down backpack rod, telescoping, or just a standard 2 piece?

Well your guesses are pretty darn good! lol Lots of lil places around there.

I use a telescoping rod, zip tie it to the side of the passenger pegs and carry my pliers and my fave lures in the trunk! the R1 has alot of trunk space!

Was it around 12-14"?

My bass is about 54".

It's a Fender.

I can't fish anymore. I hate taking them off of the hooks, even with the barbs cut off. I don't like the damage it does to them, when I'm not going to eat them.

Walleye is my fav too:) That fish looks about 2-3lbs. I wanna come fishing too, haven't gone in so long:( I even have a scale so you wont have to guess the weight.

You should start a gone fishing ride. lol

I never grasp the concept of fishing and releasing, sorry.

I eat what I catch unless it's too small or an undesirable fish like a rock bass. Used to work at my dads fish market and I can scale, gut and filet a fish too. My friends love fishing with me cause I do all the nasty work.

Seriously? If you do it right, it doesnt damage them like you think.

I normally donr release to be honest, if its small then of course everytime release, but if I had somewhere to put this one I would have kept it and ate it. I did have my fillet knife, so i technically could have dont it right there, but no where cool to keep it. Either way, I will go back this weekend and catch a bigger one and bring my cooler!

Have you eaten a largeniuth before? Not that tasty IMO. Largemouth bass live in still water that tends to hace less oxygen in it. They tolerate it because they have bigger gills then smallmouth do and get more oxygen from that still water. However, this water type tends to build more algae in the water and tends to be more stagnant then moving cooler water. They condition of the water tends to effect the taste of the fish. I thought it was all b.s. untill I actually caught, killed, and fillet a largemouth, YUCK! horrible taste. Ill only eat smallmouth now. Quick tip if your going to eat any fresh Water fish, instead of clubbing it or letting flop around untill it dies bleed it out! Let the heart pump out its blood before you cut it up. The blood in the meat gives the fish that real fishy flavor.

From what I remember, no. Like I said, normally I go for walleye, those are some good tasting fish. I grew up in mantoba and didnt have much bass where we fished. All walleye and pike. Maybe i will take your advice though and just eat the smallies( if i can catch them) , the bass are good fighting though.

As for the bleeding out, I actually knew that but forgot about it. Its the same as hunting, you want it to bleed out.

Proper releasing techniques don't harm fish as much as you think. Bass and most fish have a thick fast-healing cartlidge mouth that regenerates quite quickly. It's much more important to avoid touching the fish (removing mucus), avoiding sudden depth changes and avoiding having the fish out of water for a long time.

Not quite sure where you are fishing for your largemouths but I eat them regularly and love them! Pike live in stagnant water and are delicious....

I guess each body of water is different

Rock bass aren't bad eating, you can get some pretty decent size ones too! Not really worth my time cleaning them though.

I'm thinking Sunfish and Catfish when I was a teen. They used to get hooked through the eye, in the side, or swallow the hook occasionally.
I used to wear rubber gloves to avoid as much touching as possible. Also had something to do with my inexperience.
But those fish were dumb. At least three times we caught fish with nothing more than a bare hook.
