HOV activist Please read

York Mills to Stouffville every morning while a parade of Mercedez and Porches with 1 occupant blow by in the HOV lanes. It would be interesting to see if there is any record of the number of rear end collisions that occur

That's because most of those people (but not all of them) driving those cars are d o u c h b a g s and think they're above everyone else and the rules of the road don't apply to them because they've got $60k+ cars.

Welcome Tony.

Sorry to tell you that The Legislative Assembly of Ontario does not accept e-petitions. If you want to submit a petition to them, I suggest that you create a paper version and circulate it at motorcycle related events.

As to the idea of single occupant motorcycles getting access to HOV lanes, let's just say that I've been there before:

LOL :)
That reply was not too bad actually...

Maybe epetitions are not accepted but Facebook group
already affected changes in Ontario when they wanted to put
heavy prohibition on young drivers. Get enough people
together and politicians start to count votes...

I guess you missed the part where they would find me a "buddy" to share the ride with. That pretty adequately showed their disconnection from reality

The Facebook protest that you're talking about involved a large number of young voters, or soon-to-be voters. Motorcyclists are a drop in the bucket by comparison. To maximize the chances for success, you play the game their way: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/go2.jsp?.../petitions&menuItem=getting_involved_petition

Actually that part made me laugh :)
Imagine you come to pickup your random pooling match
and toss him helmet in his hands hehehhee

And than ride like maniac and drop him off...
That person would not share rides anymore :)

Hi Rob.. Yes I'm well aware of that. Asking everyone to sign a petition is
an important starting point. It shows me and our MPP's that Bikers are serious enough about this topic to band together for the greater good. I have already given considerable thought to collecting signatures on paper. What I'm looking for right now is public awareness and are we committed. Are we committed? There is strength in numbers. We will protest in the HOV lanes if nessesary. This issue is also mainly about safety, not nessesarily emitions. Safety for GP traffic and Motorcyclists alike. Giving Motorcyclists access to the HOV lanes SAVES LIVES and I will work to show everyone that. Respectfully Tony Belbeck.

Tony, I had the same thought last week when I was riding on the 403. I will sign the petition and invite as many people as I know. I think it will be much safer and in downtown Toronto on Yonge street, the right lane once you get north of Eglinton during high traffic times are for bikes, buses, taxis which is amazing and the Ontario government should definitely adopt this idea.

Just trying to help. As I recall the response that I received failed to cite several points that my initial message contained, which I've found is far from unusual when it comes to dealing with government functionaries. In fact some responses that I've received, over the years, completely ignored any comments I made in favour of pushing a politicians pet projects.

The interest that you get online isn't reflected in reality. I've seen several hundred people express interest in attending a rally, online, with less than 50 actually showing up. Maybe you'll have better luck with the Facebook campaign.

725 signatures so far. not bad!
I'm in the middle of writing a letter to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, The green energy act allows the Minister Himself to creat law with out going through the legistative assembly. If you wish to comment on this or add to my letter please post your comments on the Discussions page. Regards Tony Belbeck

Great work Tony! I just saw this post, but I was having the same argument/discussion with a cop at Port Dover.
Keep up the good work

As a transportation policy analyst, I agree to this 100% because the HOV lanes are intended to promote the reduction of carbon footprints of vehicular induced travel demand. Carbon footprints through vehicular travel can be reduced in many ways, and one of them being the "catalytic converter" which only functions to its efficiency when its "hot"--occurring at highway speeds and not stop and go traffic...

Great job man. I'm in and signed. Don't listen to the naysayers the only way to find out if it will work is to do it.

The cat works as soon as the car is in 'closed loop' regardless of drive conditions. You just burn more gas in stop and go. The cat is still doing it's job unless your vehicle isn't tuned properly. The more gas you burn, the bigger the carbon footprint.

Excellent work, and I think about it every morning when I ride all the way to downtown on 404. I'm not on facebook !!!!!!! yeah, that's a different story.
Can you have your petition posted somewhere else, for folks like myself to sign?
