Houston Shooter Targeting Motorcyclists

So far, 5 motorcyclists have been shot. Sad sad day.

Well I’m glad that there’s more coming out to fill in the details.

Also not Imperial Stormtroopers...

Obvioiusly not enough guns to make them safe yet.
I know all about "more good guys with guns" how about less bad guys with guns?
How do they not look in the mirror and ask "We have the most guns per capita and yet firearms are the leading cause of death for our children. Maybe we should do something different"

I thought the leading cause of death for young adults (Sub 40) was OD, but point taken.

We all like to be right, right? If I buy a new tool I like to use it as soon as possible to prove I made a good decision. A gun is a tool for self defense so go to a ghetto flashing a wad of cash to prove you did the right thing. Mindset.

Bumper sticker: "If guns are made illegal then only criminals will have guns." Sadly it's true. First you have to disarm the bad guys. How?

Gun ownership, carry etc doesn't go back centuries. I saw a 1950's film noir "Plunder Road" and a thug looked suspicious because he had a gun. Now he'd look suspicious if he wasn't carrying.

For further study: Paranoia, racism, self importance, narcissism, corporate greed, consumerism, etc.

As long as people want kill each other they will find a way, knives, rental vans, poisons, subway pushes, drownings etc. Fixing the urge to kill makes more sense but that takes facing reality.

The storm troopers missed because were told to by Lord Vader, I always thought. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to track the ship to the rebel base, as Leia, succinctly put it. They were pretty darn accurate when exterminating the Jedi.

When a country is awash in guns it makes it much easier for criminals to get them. When you have about a 100 million more guns than you have citizens there's likely always one laying around for the criminals to snatch.
Don't get me wrong , I like guns. My Dad was a Marksman who went to the range on a regular basis. I just don't think four words written by old white guys a few hundred years ago (which is no longer relevant since the British aren't coming) means you have to give a gun to every nutter who comes along.

Stop them from coming into the country to begin with.

Which seems extremely difficult without a massive crackdown at the border...IE a massive uptick in inspections. Which might never happen as the political aspects of spending hundreds of millions or billions of dollars plus adding probably not insignifigant delays at the border for all vehicles (personal and commercial) isn't pretty. Which means nobody wants to make that tough decision to do it.

I'm sure just kicking the can down the road and doing nothign will make things just fine though. /s

A few things I am pretty sure we'll never cure.
Cancer
Drug use
Drunk driving
Gun violence
Hatred
Stupidity
etc..

It's also important to remember that the old boogeyman of "USA guns coming across the border" doesn't tell the entire tale either, and there's stats to prove it:

"Cukier said the broad pattern of gun crime in the country has been known for years.

Licensed guns like rifles and shotguns are often used in domestic assaults and attacks on police officers in rural communities."

So maybe, just maybe.....continuing to limit firearm sales here, or cracking down even harder on background checks and such might have some real-world effect given the above realities. Touchy subject for a lot of people, but facts are facts.

Very few of those attacks are a first time event. A reasonable intermediate step in my mind is making it easier to lose your firearms if you show anti-social behaviour (determined by courts not politicians). Like DUI, there needs to be a humongous hammer if you are caught violating a prohibition. Tacking on another prohibition is a waste of time and energy and does nothing to change behavior or protect the public.

You've obviously never argued with a redneck.

I have zero patience for having a discussion with people who refuse to acknowledge facts and reality.

I love a good political debate or deep discussion about tough topics, but as soon as I get to a point where people start going on with "Whataboutisms", want to cite studies or "alternative facts" from YouTube, start spewing anti-science nonsense, or just wholesale refuse to even acknowledge facts, I exit the conversation. Dunning Kruger is a hell of a thing.
