OP, I would strongly advise against wearing the vest only. Buy a summer jacket to give you at least a bit of protection. Something like alpinestar T-GP R with a back protector.
It is absolutely gross out today, 40+ with the humidity. Despite normally being an ATTAGT guy i just went for a quick 20 minute trip to futureshop and broke my rule and just went in jeans/tshirt and halfy lid, and i was still soaked in sweat when i got back home just from that short trip. I feel bad for those who are at work today commuting in full gear. It's windy and i thought the wind would at least be a nice breeze when riding, but noooo, it's like a hot hair dryer blowing on your entire body. I can't imagine people who live in places like Arizona and Nevada and deal with this kind of heat all the time.

yea, I was asking one of the Argo's in the gym today how the hell they were training outside earlier under the midday sun....
It was brutal and these guys are running around geared up doing what you do in a football practice...I was sweating buckets just doing squats.
He said it wasn't too bad, I'm from Texas and it can get a lot worse there, I just don't know how the hell you guys get out for winter sports...

I was planning on taking that route the day I had to rush to work one friday at noon. But I chose to take the DVP instead hoping it was just noon...no traffic. Nope. Had to be an idiot and take the DVP and sweat at a stand still.

I rode with just the vest and my MEC Pika bag, gloves and helmet today commuting on the 401. It's a lot better than wearing a jacket, and it feels nice...until I crash *Knock on wood*
I hate to say it, I mostly ride with gear but lately it's been no gear. The heat is bearable so long as traffic is moving. When in stand still traffic all I keep thinking is, it beats winter slush and ice.
I spent two weeks in Phoenix a couple of years ago. Temp was "dry" but still 112 F by 10 a.m. (44.5 C)
Going outside felt like you just opened the oven door and stuck your face in. It was that hot!
Being dry your sweat evaporates almost instantly so in that regard it's a bit more comfortable.
However you dehydrate very fast. Gatorade is your friend, too much straight water and you
risk diluting your body salts and get into bigger trouble.
As for gear, I just picked up a nice mesh jacket from Tons of Bike Gear in Fenwick.
I'm pretty comfortable with it as the wind blows right through, It still has armor which makes me feel
a bit better. I just don't feel great going squid, kind of like trying to ride without a helmet feels totally
wrong as well.
I'm waiting for someone to invent a liquid cooled jacket that has a separate radiator...
Days like yesterday I just take the car, since I can't get myself to ride without my gear (simple fear of getting hurt).
Once it becomes so hot that you're sweating WHILE riding on the street/highway and you become very uncomfortable so that you're more focused on the heat than the task at hand...that's when the car comes out.
another VnM plug...get some of that gear, its amazing!
get some proper bloody gear and stop the "hot weather" threads..
i dont even get it, just wear a soccer jersey and you wont be hurting..a little sweaty but comfortable for sure...and no peeling the leathers off your back.
also, the roads are sticky as **** when its super hot and sunny...thats why i dont mind.
Funny, my Jordan mesh jacket is like wearing a t-shirt.
As for the vest, impact protection is better than nothing.
BUT, the tools walking around Dover wearing these things looked ready to jump onto a float at the gay parade and start dancing. A little too much like bondage lingerie in the looks department.
I thinks it was deleted... can't open it anymore.

Wearing armor is better than nothing, worst case it will help break the fall from your bike to the pavement. the sliding and rash, you're sol. I wear a douchE vest commuting to work in a golfshirt and slacks.
