Hot tub anyone?

Woo Hoo!

Tub got up to a temp where I thought I would try it out...

Avert the eyes! Covid hair alert! Not exactly hot but warm enough to enjoy. Tomorrow or tomorrow night I hope it stays somewhere between 102 and 104.

Trying it with the cover bifolded. The folded cover should work great to put a drink or pop onto.

It is pretty comfy in there. I will try out the cushion and pillow tomorrow. One nice thing about the tub is that the tub is soft anywhere and it is quite comfy to be immersed to your neck and then just drape your arms over the soft sides.

Tons of room in here for me obviously. I'm sure my wife and I will have ample room and even my brother in law as well if we could go in together in a non Covid 19 world. Not sure how many more you would want than that. The Softub website shows the 300 (largest model) as a 5 to 6 person hot tub. Not sure if I would agree with that. Just the same it is early days and I will have to see.

I really enjoyed my brief dip and I'm sure I will enjoy it even more when the temp is warmer.

According to what I have read they recommend a tablespoon of chlorine after use which is what I did.

Our plug and play is a "4 person".

With 4 people in it (unless they're all skin and bones type sorts) the water runs over the edge and when everyone gets out it drops below the skimmer. You also get the pleasure of playing footsies with everyone, like it, or not. And rubbing shoulders.

Yeah, suffice to say, it's just my wife and I 100% of the time. When the kids are home and have a pool party I've seen 4-5 kids (well, adult kids LOL) squished in there making squeaky balloon noises all trying to get in the water, but yeah, not recommended for most people. ;)

My wife and I went in before work. I just have not uoloaded the pics to smugmug. Tons of room for the 2 of us. Actually 3 easily.

We did notice the water getting very close to the top with both of us in. Add a third (let alone a fourth) and the water would overflow.

Interesting.

What a difference 10 degrees makes. At 104 it was so toasty.

Will do my night dip and report back! Was like a pool day today. With the cooler night temp I think this wilm be an interesting dip tonight.

What a day!

Got a nice treat by having a nice soak with the wife. Softub at 104. Felt quite hot getting in but so quickly a sense of comfort and relaxation. Even though it was a warm day it still was a nice soak.

Do I look relaxed? LOL!

What a wonderful thing to come home to.

Not sure of the cushion yet. Softub recommends putting some sand in it. I think I need to do that. Even though it is full of water it is just a touch too buoyant. However, the headrest is awesome!

Using the Softub with the cover bifolded nets this sort of table/deck to put stuff on. Makes a great spot for my diet pepsi. Not sure how much of an impact this will do in helping keep the heat in when the weather gets really cold.

So tempting to just set up camp there. I had better not get the chips or snacks going. Could be a Deuce Bigalow moment!

Turned out the outdoor lights and just enjoyed the stars.

Maybe I should try a different mode. Pic not showing all the stars. Just left of my 12 O'clock of my view was the "big dipper", Glorious...

After a half hour of the jets on the air airator maxed out the temp was mainly staying at 103 but occasionally went to 102. Pretty good I think. I think we are going to get some cooler evenings later this week. Will see how it performs on those evenings.

Water level seems unchanged. No leaks that I can discern and the tub seems to be working flawlessly.

My tub is an older model and is missing the light of the newer models and also does not have the little seat that is in the new ones. The new ones also forgo a screw in filter for a pop in type. I suspect the pop in type is to prevent breakage from someone coming in the tub and stepping on the filter or hitting it hard with their foot etc. There is a kit to change the filter over to a pop in type but I think I will save the expense.

The light might be nice to have but I have to admit it was so nice to sit in the dark enjoying the warmth and jets.

They do sell an upgraded jet and I could always pick one up and see if it is a worthwhile upgrade:

So far so great. About to go crash. Thanks to the Softub I think sleep is going to come quickly and peacefully. :)

@Zoodles95 stop these updates! The more there are the more my Kijiji search gets focused. You’re gonna cost me a fortune!

glad you’re enjoying the new tub! Will be looking to you for advice! Or buy this one from you when you upgrade!

Unless he decides he really needs more jets or this one can't maintain temp in the winter, I doubt he has a good reason to upgrade. This one works well and fills his desire for a nice warm soak looking at the stars. Bigger, fancier tubs just cost more and are heavier and more annoying to move.

Thanks for killing the dream!

Hey, he gave you the path and the contacts, just follow in his footsteps. The idea of a light, round softub is appealing to me. I hate asking/paying for help and getting an 800 lb fibreglass tub up on its side and getting it through the backyard is likely not a one man job.

Mine was a kijji find on the Hamilton mountain. If you go to affordable hit tubs in Hamliton Alistair will sell a new for around $4500 before taxes which is about $500 less than buying directly from Softub Canada.

Model 300 is the way to go. Tons of room for 2 and 3 can be in here without touching. 4 if some are willing to sit cross legged.

A few years ago (last time I looked in earnest) you could always find a nice working one for $1500. Now they are $2500 to $3500 and sometimes those have issues. If mine was all sorted and I did not need to invest time and money into it I would.have gladly paid the $2500. At $3500 that is creeping towards the price of a new one with less chances of headaches and you have warranty support to boot.

If it were summer I may well have gone the new route. Part of my calculus was to be able to get into one sooner. The people I bought from are the same brother and sister I posted on in the snowblower thread. You could always save Catharine the lister and keep an eye on her. The brother is constantly finding stuff and rebuilding and restoring stuff and then selling it.

He actually did a really good job repairing the leaks in the softub motor. Trouble was the bearing was shot with then necessitated some other stuff replaced. It was working; just loud and the incorrect cable without the GFCI. Once I was getting those things rectified I chose to have the Hydromate unit reskinned/recovered and also bought some extras which were not needed such as the cushion and headrest.

Even new I think they are worth the money. Even if you bought new you could probably flip it in a few years easily for $3000. The ones on the market for $2500 to $3500 are pretty old and many need something done to them.

If I could have found one sub 5 years old in perfect working order I would have gladly paid a premium. The only reason I took the chance on mine was that Alistair at Affordable Hot Tubs was willing to take the unit in to evaluate and repair as necessary.

Mike from here rebuilds and sells used tubs. I was bugging him constantly about his Sundance? plug and play tub he had. I did not bite mainly because I wanted the electric sorted first. Was all redone for $4000 including delivery. Great deal! That is a $7300 tub new plus taxes. So you really are getting a tub half price.

It was a 40A 220 and my shed was borderline able to do it. By the time my electrician finally came and got me answers it had already found a home.

Do keep an eye on the hot tub kijji searches as well. Hybrid tubs do come up on there and some do delivery included. Mike also offers the service depending on where you are.

I bought mine at Affordable.
Get yakking to Allister about bikes. You'll be there all day......lol.
Wowsa. I did not know that. I was busy enough chatting him up about Softubs and hot tubs. Great guy, honest and does good work.

Either needs another tech or someone to run the store for him though. Place is crazy busy. Very interesting setup and property.

Have you tried contacting all the people who rent Softubs around you in a reasonable radius? Maybe with Covid the rental business might be down? Perhaps they may consider selling a sitting Softub or two.

Worst case scenario you get a no. Best case you rent a truck and go bring one home.

Oh yeah. Big business. $400 for a week.

Just give it a good scrub like I did. Then with the chloronated water you are golden; or hopefully not golden.

Those are my Softub recommendations. Contact several dealers to see if they have any used tubs and their pricing and availability of new tubs. Check kijjiji and the rental places.

The right one will come along.
