Hey guys, how can I get a recall clearance letter from Honda US? I called them today and I was told that they don't do that!?
I'm importing a bike and I need the letter. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have one. I can photoshop in your vin# if you can't come up with one.

Not required for a Honda. You can go online and simply enter the VIN to check. I imported my Honda ST1300 this way, the girl at the counter (at the border) simply checked online. Nothing to it.

I think you might create some suspision if you present a recall letter to anyone who has processed a Honda before.

Do you know the URL where you can check by any chance? I tried searching for it online and I didnt find anything. Also, don't you need the recall letter when registering the bike at the Ministry office?

Unfortunately the part for the powersports won't be until this summer. Take it to riv and chances are they wont worry about to much and if they do you can explain it to them that the recall info is down on the Honda site

Thanks a lot guys. I guess I'll take my chances with the riv office and hope they won't ask for it.

So how do we get a no recall letter for a used US bike?
The owners link on honda.com pushes you to hondpowersports.com, where the owners VIN part is not available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do you get letters from other manufacturers?

Good question, i'm not sure.
I heard that some you can find online, others you have to get from the dealer and some you even have to pay.

I just tried my link above and it took me to the correct site, at least it seems that way. I did not try to enter a vin - just don't have mine handy.

[h=1]Honda Owner Link for our Powersports' customers is currently undergoing a redesign and will be available again in the Summer of 2013.[/h]If you had Powersports' vehicles or service data in your Owner Link profile, don't worry, we are preserving that data and it will be available when we launch this summer.
We will be taking the best features of Owner Link and adding more features that will provide better content and information about your vehicle, and a better opportunity for Honda consumers to share their feedback on the products they own and use.
The new version of Owner Link will be directly integrated into powersports.honda.com to provide a seamless, single sign-in experience for Honda Powersports' owners and enthusiasts.
We'll keep you posted as work progresses on this project.
In the meantime, if you’re looking for automobile records and functionality, you can go to:Owners.honda.com Or Owners.acura.com

I assume you need this for your RIV inspection. When you take your bike to Canadian Tire for this and the cashier fills out the RIV form just get her to list "www.honda.com" in this section of the form. Honda post recalls on their website.

I did this with my Kawasaki when I imported it.

BTW the cashier from the auto center does the RIV inspection so don't expect much. She fills out a standard form (same form gets used for cars and trailers) with entries like gross vehicle weight, weight per axle, number of passengers, etc..

On my last honda import they did not even look for the printout. I guess they did it themselves online.

Why don't you try:

For additional information specific to a vehicle, please contact your Honda/Acura dealer. Importers can also contact American Honda Motor Co. at 1-800-999-1009.

When I tried to get one, Honda USA said they won't do it as they consider it grey market. Honda Canada cannot access that database.

Honda dealers in US can give you the recall clearance if you ask kindly. Once I went to a shop in Buffalo to get tires before crossing the border and ask for a recall clearance, they were kind enough to provide me one for free. However for my last 2 import (honda) the recall clearance letter was not asked during the RIV inspection.
