Honda Confirms V4 Sportbike

I bought my street Suzuki in fall of 2009 and built it in 2010. When I built it, it was because I couldn't get the RSV4 until at least 2011 (or so I was told, this turned out not to be true). I saw it at its FIRST appearance in North America in December of 2009 at the show. First-string buyers could get the bike in 2008 but they were rare and all in other countries (europe and oddly, Australia). Canada got some of the first generation bikes - in 2010 - but not many at all - I was told there were 7 Factories imported in 2010... but I cannot verify that.

I have wanted this bike a long time and it's kinda killing me that I am not going to buy one, because the Tuono is just a much better street bike. I've ridden (and ridden with) the RSV4 a lot and it's more of a racing bike than my racing bikes. Maybe when my GSX-Rs get older I'll put one on the track but I doubt it... the Suzukis are cheap and easy to track. Maybe an APRC bike will show up salvagable or used some day and I'll spring.

They have a couple more, but those have serious front end damage.

Can't bring myself to care. Aprilia offers the RSV4 Factory today for around $22K Canadian. Comes with over 180hp, GP-quality traction control, the best handling frame in the industry, lightweight wheels, Brembo brakes, Ohlins suspension front/rear and a V4 motor. It's been in production for four years and apparently gets a 20hp/-20lb update for 2013 (rumour at this point, however).

The Honda V4 will be a HRC unit - more expensive. Less supported. No more desirable, IMHO.

If you want this bike, you can buy one right now.

I have to agree with you Shaman. Fanboy or not, I think about the rsv4 everynight lol. Now if I could afford the insurance and the crazy riding position with my surgery back, I would be sitting with one in my garage. For now the monster will do lol

I love the RSV4 too, I would kill to own the Factory version. In fact, I would take that bike over any bike currently on sale. Everybody who rides it says it's a brilliant bike. Biaggi seems to do well on it in WSBK as well. Honda's old RC30 & RC45 V4's are legendary bikes though. I'm curious what they'll do with a new 1000cc interpretation.

I have scans somewhere from a magazine where they compared an RSV4 Factory to an HRC kitted RC45. I'll have to find it and post it up, was an interesting read.

V4s are so awesome. The RC30 is my all time favourite bike.

Mine too! If I could have just one bike, no doubt it would be an RC30 with a few HRC kit items thrown at it. Sexy...the Aprilia can't compete in the looks department.

Of course, if the Honda was stock it would have been a different conclusion.

Oh, I'd love to ride it... but I'd be scared to crash it... none of those parts is replacable, I imagine.

I wonder what they'd say if they had Biaggi's race bike to compare to that HRC bike, though. I mean... they're a lot more comparable, given that RC-45 hardly has a stock part anywhere on it. I know what Brett McCormick said (remember him) after trying out Camier's bike? (sic) "Somebody get me on an Aprilia!"

I would love to own the standard RSV4 in white. I think it's a gorgeous little motorcycle.

From what I've read, the new Honda will be more "high-end," so they can keep it. I'm sure it will be very nice---but as I get older I get cheaper.

If Yamaha put their R1 back on fire-sale pricing I'd go for that, too. It's bigger and heavier than the Aprilia for sure, but very neat in its own right.

So the gyst of this thread is...

  • Honda announces a 'back to their roots' high-end top-secret V4 sportbike;
  • Certain users do not care because they are in love with Aprilia and the RSV4 is the last bike anyone needs to make;
  • Thread gets derailed...

I'm at least interested in seeing the thing! And I bet others are too. Bikes always get better...

Meh.

Honda should've built a V4 sportbike 10 years ago.

If they really wanted to distinguish themselves, they would be building a V5 for the street....

The final bike was shown early 2008. We're nearing end of '12 now. I understand that you feel its the greatest motorcycle ever built and no further updating is EVER necessary, but they'll have to redesign it eventually. A good time would be if/when Honda launches a competing product.
*thread jack* but apple doesnt really need to redesign though?
ahahah

*goes back in the waiting line for the new bike*

Am i the only one who thinks that honda is over rated? I get it that they earned a good reputation but you can say the same for any auto manufacturer in north america in 2012. why honda thinks it can charge premium for a cbr 600 when suzuki gsxr 600, 750, which are much newer in design and yet retail for far less. this applies to all their products. zx10 is cheaper than a cbr 1000 (makes no sense). Honda charges premium for their products but i do not think it's been deserved since the year 2000. I think honda's competitors have caught up and exceeded honda, be it automotive or motorcycles. For me, the biggest turn off with respect to honda is their powerhouse approach to motorcycle sales. It's like the delers throw bikes in the showroom because they have to and could care less if one gets sold. (walk into ready honda) mississauga to see my point.

They should bring back the Magna while they're at it as a sport-cruiser like it was in the 80's and not the ugly thing they created in the late 90's and early 2000's
