Home office

The less the govt./CRA knows about what goes on in my home the better...
Work from home and STFU.
You're saving enough $, time etc as it is
I know of some companies where T2200's are handed out like candy and employee use is rampant. Doing things like claiming mileage using T2200 even though mileage was reimbursed. If CRA accidentally finds one employee doing that, the pain should spread rapidly. Life is too short to cheat CRA. They can make your life hell.

T2200 is for expenses that were not reimbursed. If you were reimbursed, the corporation claimed the deduction and you have no deduction on your personal income tax return. If you were not reimbursed, you got a T2200 and you meet the conditions, you can claim the relevant expenses on your personal tax return.

I know people that use T2200 to expense PEO licenses…even though their company reimburses them…

Dangerous game since when the CRA bends you over…there will be no lube.

Very confusing asked about a form, told to STFU and now assume I'm cheating...lol
Being sarcastic, but I love how every thread goes in this direction...

I've had a Geek Desk height-adjustable base for years; I bought a 63"x31.5" table top from Ikea to slap on top. I've got my personal laptop on the left, and my work laptop on the right with two additional monitors.

If you go this route, also get a comfortable, adjustable chair (multi-tilt for my stupid back and hips), a foot rest, and an anti-fatigue mat (amazon has some nice ones with pressure point/massage nubs on them). Sit til your butt or back hurts, stand til your feet hurt. Switch as needed.

I don’t think anybody said you cheated. There’s lots of cheating but I didn’t see anyone accuse you of cheating at all.

No angry...
Just don't think its worth waking a sleeping dog for what is very little, if any return.
'Not a CPA, but...
Claim deductions for "office space" in your primary residence... How does that affect your over all tax situation when you go to sell the house...?
It's give and take with CRA... Mostly "take" so... be careful lol

It has no affect when you sell your house unless you have claimed capital costs. Occupancy costs are expenses you can claim along the way. To take a few hundred a month off your taxable income is normally not questioned. Try to argue that 50% of your expenses are related to employment uses and cra will likely want to talk.

I'd like to know the REAL number/percentage of working folks can, regardless of their company policies "work from home".
Is it really all that significant..?

I'm sure a lot of IT jobs could be done in your underwear, sales maybe..?

The workers who really keep the economy moving... Trades for example, can't work from home.

On the trade front, estimation, payroll, A/P, A/R, procurement/logistics can all be remote.

Many engineers can be remote a decent percentage of the time.

While some jobs are obviously 100% on-site with no alternative, many many jobs can be at least partially remote with little downside and a big upside.

By "trades" I meant the actual trades people.
Sure, all the office stuff can be done remotely, but the plumber with his work truck needs to go out into the world and get things done.

Yup. No good way around that. On the plus side, it also means those jobs have no threat from outsourcing. If I can work remote from ontario, someone else can work remote from India for less.

I've been in sales pretty much my entire career. Never had a desk in an office. T2200 every year for decades.

My last job was in a Canadian sales branch of a US-based company. Our "office" was just a place to invite clients if they wanted to come in instead of us going out to them. Every single one of our employees were T2200ed, except for the receptionist.

Full-time motorcycle instructor now. My boss signs off on a T2200 for me, so I can write off motorcycle-related expenses, including depreciation, which effectively nullified my entire income the first year of ownership. :ROFLMAO:
